Worst sore throat of my life

Anonymous
I'm looking for advice on a little relief. It started a week ago. I saw the doctor and started antibiotics on Sunday. I've spoken to the nurse line folks and my doctors office this week, but it still hurts like hell. Swallowing is painful. My jaw/ear/throat/neck and back of tongue hurt. I'm losing weight because eating is difficult.

I'm taking tylenol for pain. Other NSAIDs aren't an option for me. I'm drinking a lot of hot tea.

If you have been on antibiotics for five days and you have no relief, call and go back to your doctor. Now. Immediately.

Strep or mono, maybe? Time to go back to the doctor. GL

Get some carbonated water - the kind with no added salt - that will make it easier to swallow. Stay hydrated. Honey will coat your throat but doesn't last. Try cottage cheese, plain ice cream and chicken soup to keep up your strength.

Could you possibly have a sinus infection? They drain down your throat and it goes raw. Try gargling with salt water and, yes go back to the doctors. After 5 days your antibiotic should be working. You may need a different one.

Thrush. Got it once, not sure how. Hurt like hell.

Does mono cause pus on the tonsils? Rapid strep test was negative on Sunday.

Go back to doc.

+1 - definite possibility. I have one now after a cold I got 5 weeks ago and my throat hurts big time. Has for four days. Off to the doctor I go...

Try Oil of Oregano, in addition to going back to the Doctor. Can find in health food stores or on the web. I've just had a really bad sore throat and, while antibiotics helped, I started taking several drops of this under the tongue and then swallowing. It tastes super-nasty (think concentrated oregano), but was the only thing that cut thru the sore throat and allowed me to get some congestion up.

Get tested for mono!
