I know this shouldn't get under my skin, but it does. Spouse and their cousin were very close when we met 4 years ago. Since then, cousin has relocated several states away. Every other week or so cousin will call (usually for advice/talking through things), and they will spend an hour to 2 hours just chatting away. I understand their separation has been hard on them and they're used to talking daily, but some nights I don't want to stop what we are doing so spouse can spend their time on the phone. Cousin also frequently calls FIL and BIL, so I know it is not just spouse.
I don't want to come between spouse and cousin, but am I justified in asking spouse to put some parameters on how much they talk? We don't have children, so it's not detracting from them. FWIW, I do genuinely like cousin. They helped me a lot when I was joining the family. |
No, no you're not justified in putting rules in place on how long your spouse can be on the phone. UNLESS YOUR SPOUSE IS 12 YEARS OLD!
Twice a month they can gab away like two old ladies. Get over yourself and go be productive on your own. |
1-2 hrs every couple of weeks does not sound like a lot of time. Could you ask dh to schedule the call, so it's not an interruption of whatever you are doing? |
So once every 2 weeks Your spouse chats to their cousin for 2 hours? Male or female op, you are a horrible person and I hope your spouse realized that you're a controlling freak of an asshole before kids are in the picture. |
Your deliberate use of pronouns is really contorted. What's up? |
I hope you and your DH don't plan on having kids. You are way too insecure. |
Opinions seem to change when the gender of everyone is known. |
HahahahahahahHBa. Psycho op |
Really OP... Come on! |
+1 I'm gobsmacked that this is even a consideration. Pull yourself together OP. |
Wut? |
I know it's annoying, DH does this with his family. It's more- interruptive than anything. Honestly. Pick your battles. This is not worth fighting. |
Does he spend all day, everyday texting with them too? They text all day and night, then resume it the next day. It's never ending. After all that, what could be left to actually talk about? |
1. I spend an hour talking to my mother twice a week, because she lives abroad and I see her in person once a year. 2. I spend 30 minutes talking to my friends - I call at least one of them once a week. 3. I'm not chatty compared to others. OP, you are completely out of line. The only thing you can insist on is that your spouse does not make you late if you had prior engagements. |
ProbaBly you. I know I'd need someone to spend time with if I was married to a wreck like you! |
