I am currently at a local park waiting for my son to finish soccer practice. There is a little obscure playground here that no one ever visits. There is a family of 4 at the playground in masks. There is no one around them. Just them and their toddlers. What are they scared of?

Why do you care? For all you know, one of them is recovering from cancer. Butt out!

This- we know a family that wear masks around eachother at home too because dad has to go into the office part-time and one kid is back in school. Just easier to wear masks then worry about transmission at home. The family at the playground could have a similar family policy.

I still don't get why a family playing by themselves would wear masks, especially when they are accepting much bigger risks with a respiratory therapist in the family, but YMMV. Even when masks outside were all the rage, I would only put them on myself and my kids when other people showed up at the playground.

There are parents who are picking their kids up from school on rainy days during lunch so that the kids don’t have to eat inside. Everyone has gone just a little bit more insane. We were getting a little better until MoCo brought back the indoor mask mandate.

We have friends doing that and good for them. We'd do that too if ours were in person. Saying you follow science means nothing as its just a made up term to justify your behavior.

As in, saying you follow science to justify your behavior of keeping your kids out of in-person.

I'm using science to know if I have to get my kids at lunch, there is no social distancing or other basic precautions beyond masking per the CDC its best not to have kids in person. If you read the CDC guidlelines MCPS isn't really following them nor are most parents.

Well MCPS administered 29,000 tests in 141 schools and only found 18 positives. So I guess MCPS, the parents and the students are doing something right to have a positivity rate of 0.067%. But you do you. CDC guidance is predicated on community transmission and vaccination. We are 89.3% fully vaccinated and 99.2% with at least 1 dose. This is not Alabama.

This was an opt in test where those high risk opt out. Cdc guidance says more especially with large schools.

CDC guidance says that if you can’t social distance use a layered approach, vaccination, masking, cohorting, testing, ventilation and respiratory protocols. What specifically is MCPS not doing ?

vaccination: getting there, but eligible students do remain unvaccinated

masking: check

cohorting: not happening

testing: still a joke. Only 125 tests deployed to schools and roll out has been abysmal for screening tests.

ventilation: show me the data. the diamonds don't cut it.

Acknowledge it's an airborne transmitted disease.

The respective numbers yesterday were 66 new cases per 100,000 residents; 1.8% test positivity; 68.6% of hospital inpatient beds occupied; 72.8% of ICU beds in use; 7.2% of hospital beds occupied by patients with covid.

Also, 76.3% of all county residents, 89.9% of county residents aged 12+, 90.3% of county residents aged 18+, and 96.4% of county residents aged 65+ are fully vaccinated.

Zero kids in elementary school are vaccinated. Not all in middles school are. Accinated. You can still get Covid vaccinated.

As of October 8 MCPS completed 28,000 tests on 141 schools. Where did you get the 125? Vaccination is at 89.3 % fully vaccinated. 0 pediatric deaths, and less than 10 pediatric hospitalizations in the county. Leave your anxiety in the basement or it will consume you

Surveillance testing is no longer needed. Our rate of transmission at school is 0.067%. This is a waste of money, tests and resources. Test to stay is what we need. But of course COVID grand posturing and the need to appease PAGES and MCCPTA.

Other kids and families may be high risk in the school. Weekly testing is appropriate. Cdc recommends regular testing but science to you only matters when it’s imo and your opinion is for your needs only. .

Asymptomatic can spread Covid. You don’t wait for symptoms and then test and say oh well to the safety of others. Very selfish. They should have mandatory weekly testing or you cannot be in person school and parents need to figure it out.

Vaccines reduce symptoms not stop Covid. Half of mcps is not vaccinated. You can still get Covid vaccinated.
