Well, she wasn't at the caliber of the others. I think she's making excuses, personally.

Well. Jill Ellis said the decision was "solely based on soccer" so it must be true.

How long do you think Gregg Berhalter would last if he said, "I picked this forward to be my left back but it wasn't because I don't like the politics of the best player in the position?" Since Berhalter isn't a lesbian, he'd probably be gone in a flash.

Somehow I think they managed to do okay without her. Or are you proposing that teams should select lesser skilled players in the name of diversity? That's an interesting position for you to be taking.

Winning coaches usually select players based on what they need at each position, and not on whether they agree to wear pride jerseys.

But I forgot. This isn't about soccer. It's about politics. It's about "shut up and pay us while we insult everything you believe in."

That's fine. I don't care. I hope Rapinoe enjoys going back to kneeling for the anthem in front of tens of fans in her "professional" league that no one cares about.

No one needs homophobes in women’s soccer. They’re even less worthwhile when they’re spewing their opinion so here.

Especially because Hinkle's stats were mediocre. That PP doesn't know anything about soccer but doesn't like women winning so is having a keyboard aneurysm.

At least the USWNT won and looked dominant today. The men, not so much.

1. No. Are you aware of how many more teen pros we have now as a direct result of the DA? The younger MNT players who played DA like McKennie, Pulisic, Adams, and Sargent are much more fun to watch than those on the current team who came of age pre-DA. If the girls DA ends up being as successful as the boys for the same low cost (well in the future, I know) it will be hugely helpful for girls soccer.

2. This is not the thread for this question. We are talking about the women after a really great World Cup.

I will be interested to see if there is a big boost in the number of girls going to play in Europe the next few years, either after or instead of college.

There are many more teen pros because they’ve been adding 1-2 MLS teams a year for the last 6-8 years.

Well, I started this thread and as predicted, the US took home the trophy. To all the folks predicting the demise of the USWNT this WC, better luck with your pessimism in 4 years. For now, the USWNT rules once again. USA, USA, USA!

Was Rose Lavelle that good? In the end? Opinions?

Other than the France game she was pretty damn good. Okay vs France. Had some great moments of individual quality and combination play.

#1. Pulisic is not the result of the DA. Get a grip.
#2. US Mens soccer was better 15 years ago. Go figure.
#3. Rose didnt play DA. She did just fine and is "exciting".
#4. Why do we need to send our women to Europe? European women are coming here. I guess we should go learn from the European Champs huh.

And #5. The biggest point of them all

A LEAGUE DOESNT CREATE TALENT. A PAY TO PLAY SYSTEM IS NOT A TRUE ENVIRONMENT TO CREATE WORLD CLASS PLAYERS. THE DA IS NOTHING MORE THEN A YOUTH LEAGUE MADE UP OF INDIVIDUAL CLUBS. ITS ALL BS.

I agree with point 5 on leagues creating or not creating talent. But you are quite mistaken that the US MNT was better 15 years ago. Today’s players are better. But the rest of the world got better faster. And if you think pay to play is the problem, please remind me what system produced the USMNT 15-20 years ago? Not a great system. But you need to look at the nature, scope, quality and increase in investments made by other countries in their men’s teams over the same period. If and when that happens on the women’s side, our women will face more serious rivals and they will be forced to show more technical and tactical skill.

DP, but you pretty much confirmed pp’s point re pay-to-play. Years ago it may have been a effective way to compete when other countries didn’t have as sophisticated player development system. But since other countries started investing more in their non-pay-to-play systems, the U.S. is falling behind because pay-to-play simply isn’t an effective strategy for developing high-level talent.

Hope Solo said Lavelle should have gotten the golden ball and that Lavelle was by far the best player in the tournament. She also said Dunn was the second best player in the WC and that Tobin Heath was also up there.

Pulisic has said the DA played an important role in his development, and, of course, that he was hugely fortunate to have a European passport so he could play overseas at 16.

Claiming the US men’s team was better 15 years is ridiculous. We have a large and growing number of teens in Bundesliga now, which is huge, in addition to the number of homegrowns here.

Wouldn’t you rather play for Lyon than any of the women’s professional teams here? I sure would.

Lavelle is going places.

Just her first World Cup, and she scores that beautiful goal in the final!

So why does all of the attention go to Morgan, Rapinoe and O'Hara?
