Exactly. Again, if you don’t get it, you just don’t get it. You don’t have to send your player there, but why knock it by spreading misinformation? They focus exclusively on development, and anyone that says otherwise is lying.

This sounds like a case of pot, meet kettle. Of course, the guy on your side is telling the truth and the guy who is not is lying. It's the way of the world.

There was a serious question raised though. Do you believe that the TD (assuming that coaches really NEVER speak with parents on any level), or any staff member, is incorruptible? That they may not curry to favorities based on their biases? That sounds very naive to me. It's a very human flaw and I'm more inclined to believe a poster who says they have seen it than someone who insists the staff at a club (any club) are beyond reproach. It's just not a realistic belief, where human beings are concerned.

What I would believe is that the disgruntled parent likely tried to curry favor for their kid and didn’t succeed.

I’m not really sure what favors a parent could have expected from Barca last year. There were no established teams. At one point or another during the week each coach worked with each player.

Players were placed in fluid groups and moved based on progress or need. I’m not really sure what influence the poster thinks any parent would either want or achieve by “corrupting” the coach. Perhaps you could get that cushy 10am game time for the internal friendly instead of 9am?

Or maybe that trip to Spain and other perks of being considered a top player. Oh, I forgot, there are no favorites in this program. I need to be more disciplined and stick to the propaganda points!

1. Any Escola player who wants to go to Spain for the clinic may do so. So pay the 3k and knock yourself out.
2. The Escola tourney was represented by even year teams, so half the possible teams were not eligible. This coming year only odd birth year teams will attend.
3. Only one or two older boys teams went this summer.

In all cases the trip wasn’t free so if you were asked, couldn’t afford it and said no they went down the line.

So, to sum up. If you want to train in Barcelona simply being in the Escola gives you priority booking for the training. So no ass kissing necessary.

The longer this discussion goes on, the more I'm turned off to this club. It sounds like a good place at first, but anytime anyone posts even a tiny bit of a reasonable, negative view, they are trashed. It doesn't seem right. At the least, it seems like some parents are a little over the top.

You are going out of your way to look for negatives, when an overwhelming amount of feedback is positive. That’s what doesn’t seem right. You’re not even with the club, but surely SOMETHING must be going on there? Yawn. Again, it’s not for everyone. I’m not sure they will lose sleep over not having you, over something you read on an anonymous dc urban moms board. You could contact the club, you could go down there and see their processes for yourself, but no, you’re making assumptions based on what a bitter person wrote.

What makes you think I haven't been to Evergreen to see them? Your response seems aggressive, which is exactly what i was saying.

People tend to view any slight or perceived injustice as the work of a group of others. If someone wants to see favoritism they will. Even siblings tend to think the other one always get what they want or they get away with everything. So if a kid ends up in a different group out of the blue it must be favortism.

There was very little to bother seeking favors at Barca. There were no league games only internal games so playing time is not an issue.

Practice groups were mostly balanced so there is no “A team” to manipulate onto.

There really was nothing “extra” that a coach or the club could even offer to bother kissing ass about.

In that case, you’re either grasping at straws, or simply playing devil’s advocate to amuse yourself. You really are offering nothing to this conversation other than being vague and conspiratory. Best of luck with your agenda.

Wow, I see. Thanks again for your help. Your last sentence is more fitting in return.

Best of luck with your agenda.

When someone says “yawn” in their rebuttal “aggressive” does not come to mind.

People have attempted to clarify the criticisms only to be attacked.

For exampl, Explaining the age groups for the Spain trip can hardley be seen as either aggressive or fan boyish. It was just a fact.

Sorry if that turns you off. Enjoy the club you are at.

Don’t have one, I’m not even affiliated with FCB in any way, other than being a fan of the senior team that plays in La Liga. Your attempts at trying to find dirt are just laughable. Don’t mistake it for aggression, you’re choosing to be indignant.

Different poster here. So you are not even part of the program since you suggested that you may have come to Evergreen "to see them", but you are railing against the program based on however many minutes you spent peeking in? You keep saying negative things, but FCB tryouts were full with multiple players coming from DAs and ODP. The program must be doing something right to attract them.

This is the norm at most European academies. Soccer related things are discussed between the player and the coach. Coaches coach, parents support. This may be hard for helicopter parents to accept.

Speaking conceptually here, until the US Soccer system as a whole and its coaches are able to establish a track record of successful player development (instead of the tragedy going on right now), parents rightfully so have "trust" issues. My kid is with FCB, so I'm not talking about them specifically. I'm just saying that even for me, I wanted to stand back and "trust the process", but a succession of incompetence and betrayal makes that hard. And don't even get me started on the politics that acts like a cancer in virtually every club.

That said, conceptually again, ideally, it is much better when parents can in fact step back and let the coaches coach. It's better for parents so they can step out of the process and let coaches do the work of developing, but clubs make it hard to do that.

However, so far, I too have had a great experience with the Escola. I find the coaches dynamic, flexible and player focused.

I think you people did a good job scaring her off. I didn't think that poster railed against anything, she just made a comment about the thread and got trashed for it.

Scared off? Real scary, an anonymous board.

Lol, it must have been the use of "yawn" by another poster that "scared" him or her off. I just don't understand why a person, who is not part of the program, makes multiple disparaging posts about the program with factual assertions that are untrue.
