I was listening to the mayor of Irving speak this afternoon on TV with another guy (didn't get his name) and the guy said that this boy's sister said the same school accused her of a bomb threat a few years earlier. Any one else hear this?

Did she have troubles with the school system, or did the system have trouble with her?
Two sides to every story, but I guess the school won't be able to tell their version of events.
Sounds like a trouble maker family.

Here's the problem though - that school is less than 10% caucasian. So it's not 'white privilege'. The teachers and staff can't tell their side of the story because Ahmed is a minor. They asked Ahmed's parents to do so and they refuse. The police state that he was uncooperative, just saying over and over again "it's a clock", but came alive when the media got involved. Furthermore, what's the point of taking a clock out of it's case and putting it in a pencil box? Was it modified in any way? My kids wouldn't have done that unless they were going to make changes to the way it worked or use the components for something else, probably with my husband's help. I don't think Ahmed's homemade clock would have made it past security in lots of places.

There is no way to back up the sister's story - we have to take her at her word?

What are the odds that two kids from the family of an activist father both are victims of Islamophobia in a minority school?

She got suspended because some other kid accused her of a bomb threat? I'd need to hear the other side of the story on this one. And the family won't give the school permission to speak.

Or it didn't quite go down that way at all.

If there was an accusation of a bomb threat then the matter should have been referred to the police for an investigation. I would assume that this would have triggered a search of the student's locker and possibly a warrant to search the family home. An investigation would have resulted in a report and the report would have been filed. On the other hand, it's possible that the accusation was retracted and no further action was taken.

then she would not have been suspended.

Nope. Because she's not elaborating. And the other side is gagged.

No one can gag the accuser.

Since they arrest people who make bomb threats, it is reasonable to assume the accusation is false.
