I don’t think she is mediocre. She just does better when she surrounds herself with artists. E.g. during her Folklore and Evermore era, Jack, Aaron, Joe and Matty were instrumental to her success.

Define mid. Their respective albums have all reached #1 in the charts, sold millions of copies, and both Taylor and The 1975 just completed multi-year, sold out international tours. They are hugely popular, whether we like that style of music or not.
