Danny Gatton and the Fat Boys!! |
Joe Thesman was such a cocky &&%$@@##!!! I could never stand to listen to him yammer on about how great he was. Turd of the extreme! I was behind him at a gas station once and he was pumping more gas into his Beamer with one hand as he was bouncing his car up and down with his other hand - like this is really gonna get more gas in the tank. Not only a turd, a stupid turd. I, for one, enjoy watching replays of his injury (harsh, I know). |

When gas stations used to hand out steak knives (white handle) with a fill up. Remember $.35 a gallon? I still had one in my tool box until a few years ago.
|
| In 1969 before the Apollo 11 mission when gas stations have out sheets of perforated paper you could turn into lunar landers? I saved a stack of them in my mom's basement on Maiden Lane thinking they would be collectors items one day. They got tossed a decade or so ago. |
And I thought I was old. I was only in 9th grade in 1976. I remember sneaking out of school for the first earth day, maybe it was 1979?, to see Jackson Browne on the mall. |
You ARE old! (I am just a little older.) |
|
When you could only buy gas on even days or odd days?
When you would pull in and top off your tank if you passed a station with a short line? When locks started appearing on gas tank doors to prevent syphoning? When the local school buses were always a source of gas in a pinch? Tie a rope to the syphon hose so you could drive off while pulling it out of both tanks and drop it along the road quick (just in case)... |
| Picking up blank student IDs at UDC (universty of the district of columbia) and typing in a more helpful birth date and glueing on my picture........ |
| When the price for a quality bag was $35/oz |
| When the Big Mac was first introduced. The box was so cool! Special sauce! |
Hey, OP, I finally opened the thread. I used to work at the Pike Theater. Next to Crown Books and the Jumbo grocery store. That has been a long time ago. |

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but when the D.C. cops marched all the prostitutes down from their hangouts on 14th Street straight across the 14th St. Bridge into Virginia.
Does anyone else remember the Twin Bridges Marriott? |
I remember the Pike Theater! Used to drive all the way from B-town if the show at the Baronett was lousy. Thanks for the memory! |
| Whitman rugby coach John Haberman - what a gentleman (years 1974 to 1977 I was around). I hope you are well Mr. Haberman!! |
