And to those not on AEM, the more recent anonymous posts have been about topics like how to hire a tutor, whether to tip a tutor, complaints about a child being switched to a different class without notice etc. While some people would be fine posting these questions under their own name, the identity of the poster is completely irrelevant and there’s zero reason anyone needs to know who posted the question or comment. If someone comes out swinging, bad talking teachers or specific members of the community, the moderators are there to delete the posts. It’s fine.

Like the poster pointed out, the other people don't have the option of responding anonymously. And what exactly is the criteria for being granted permission to be anonymous, anyway?

It's really only a few people, including (and especially) the woman who questioned why more people are posting anonymously. I agree with her more often than disagree but am so turned off by her. Accusing someone of "whitesplaining" because he disagreed with her, for example. Accusations (completely unwarranted IMHO) like that shut down any meaningful conversation and yes, make people wary of publicly posting. There is no real exchange of ideas on AEM anymore. And it's a shame.

Agreed. I think she's making the post as more of a statement rather than a question. It is not rocket science. Does she really not understand that the combative nature of responses deters people from wanting to post with their identity? Come on.

My kid would be mortified if I asked some of those questions in a public forum. Unfortunately some moms are gossip queens and say things like "Did you hear Larla needs a Alg 2 tutor". Ugh.

I just left that group. I can't handle the drama. Get over it; your health insurance changed. The rest of the working world has to deal with that shit also.

Agreed. I’m close to leaving, especially with my last kid almost done in APS. I’m usually very sympathetic on teachers’ issues, but the health insurance isn’t one of them.

I think those are all good reasons to give your child privacy

Exactly. I have no issue with stuff like that and would post anon for all of those reasons. Whether or not a handful of people post – many, many more read. It’s a nice option to be able to protect a kid’s privacy.
