It does. The order is the ranking. Why is it so hard for you to understand? |
We’ve established many times that that isn’t the case, but once again: provide actual data to support your case that MCPS is better. You all have yet to provide ANYTHING. |
Here is a good example. This is a ranking of Catholic all-girls high schools in Maryland. It is an accurate ranking based on the filters. It doesn't, however, label each school with a number. Look how it labels them as the ranking nationwide in this case. That doesn't mean the order is incorrect. This is also a very legitimate ranking using the filters provided, but it doesn't have specific ranking number saying all girls Catholic.

Niche has a ranking for “Best High Schools for STEM.”
Let’s take a look at the Maryland rankings, which clearly combine public and private. https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-schools-for-stem/s/maryland/ As you can see, the private schools take the top 5 spots and in fact take most of the top 20. The W schools are there, but MCPS by no means is better than the private schools. Should we keep going with this data? |
Here’s the DC area STEM ranking:
1. TJ (no surprise) 2. BASIS McLean 3. Sidwell 4. NCS 5. Potomac 6. GDS 7. St Alban’s 8. Holton 9. St. Anselm’s 10. Madeira 11. McLean 12. Poolesville 13. Maret 14. Langley 15. Pinnacle 16. Landon 17. Episcopal 18. Rochambeau 19. Georgetown Prep 20. Churchill 5 public. 3 non-magnets. 1 non-magnet MCPS. |
Do you know the algorithm that Niche uses to get the results. I do. It’s bogus. If you want your kid’s school to feature highly on this list have a campaign at the school for families to go and rank it. Seriously, it don’t matter if it’s a crap school; it will feature highly. I’m from a different state (originally) and our state has a FOR PROFIT school featured highly. No one really wants their kid to go there if they know anything about it. It’s full of mostly expats who moved with a short time span and couldn’t get their kids into a better school - and some boarding students from China. The school is crap, but Niche ranks it as one of the highest schools in the state - why? because everyone that attend is asked every year through a campaign effort to rank the school. I would never trust Niche scores, but maybe you get what you deserve if you do trust them. Stupid begets stupid. |
Oh I love this ranking and especially seeing that an all girls school outranks most of the W schools. |
You sound bitter. Just go away if you don't like the facts. |
Post proof or I don’t believe you. |
I have four kids who have attended 3 different private schools, and none of these schools every had this sort of a campaign. The only campaign they all consistently engaged in was a annual fundraising campaign. Nice try though. |
Same at my daughter’s private school. My sister and I also went to private school and have never had anyone even mention Niche, much less done a campaign around it. |
Why are you so defensive about this? You made your choice, and apparently you believe in it, so you should be good. Many people regardless of money prefer the public school education, particularly around here where MCPS is very good, and they have given OP many reasons why they think it is better. If you regret your decision, just admit it, but otherwise your behavior just seems really odd. |
Reasons without data. Being endlessly defensive of something with zero proof is much weirder than defending something by providing evidence. |
The public school parent trying to debunk the data and claiming that the math at public schools is superior to private schools is the one who is odd. We're just trying to provide proof that most private schools in the DMV area outperform public schools. This is the proof, but for some reason there is at least one poster here who is in denial. If they would shut up, we would. |
Oh look, here's a listing of best in stem among Catholic schools in the DC area. A reliable ranking that doesn't assign numbers due to the extra filter for Catholic schools. Still an accurate list though. Love how you can slice and dice these rankings!
