One thing Ive been considering is whether the CEO of Disney actually cares about the Florida parks. Or any parks. A couple years ago, he announced that the company's focus would be shifting to its streaming content as a first priority. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/12/disney-reorganizes-to-focus-on-streaming-direct-to-consumer.html
What followed was a lot of chatter online about Disney's service and quality declining: Complaints of price gouging and disgusting smells: https://metro.co.uk/2022/03/30/disneyland-complaints-of-ride-breakdowns-smells-and-price-growing-16376396/ Complaints from Inside The Magic-- the fan zine of Disney-- about the merch quality: https://insidethemagic.net/2022/01/disney-drop-quality-merch-ld1/ Complaints that the new $1200 per night hotel sucks: https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2021/12/13/disney-removes-video-for-star-wars-hotel-amid-fan-backlash/amp/ More Disney fan sites saying they are outraged by various aspects of service: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wdwinfo.com/walt-disney-world/the-disney-bubble-burst-its-time-to-stop-giving-them-a-pass/amp/ I think given this 2+ year trend, it is safe to say, as the CEO did, that the parks are no longer a priority. Its entirely possible the CEO made a calculated gamble with this, that getting on board the hollywood battle cries against dont say gay would be better for business (streaming) than appealing to its more conservative park goers. |
This is a tax break for Disney. I think it's hilarious. What are county residents going to do when their taxes go up? |
Boy are you in for a rude awakening with your kids. You can't hide your kids under a rock. The best way forward is to talk to them, not try shelter them. They will learn. Their friends will tell them. This is not the 1950s anymore. |
There was a pandemic that Disney had to deal with, as you may recall. They were closed for months. That drop in revenue hurt Disney, just like it did other businesses all over the world. Disney streaming didn’t do as well as anticipated. |
If you read the first link, you'll see that he made the streaming-first decision PRIOR to the pandemic. And your reading of the situation may alter in light of the fact that Universal Studios, which as parks in the same locations, are enjoying record high profits. They gained more visitors during the pandemic fhan they had prior to the pandemic. So why is one theme park rolling in the dough, expanding to construct what will be the largest park in the US, while the other has the worst performing stock on the Dow? This isnt due to culture wars IMO. Disney made a decision to deemphasize its parks and go full hog on the streaming content, and that means appealing more to hollywood types. And those business decisions are failing. Before you mistakenly attack Universal, one of their most popular merch items has a rainbow and says "love is universal." They also pumped lots of $$ into the Biden campaign. |
I follow Disney stock and it is a little different. Streaming is the future. It is where growth will come from. The parks are part of the bread and butter. Huge cash flow. So they care about the parks but not in the same way as streaming. |
Universal is so much smaller vs Disney. You really have no understanding of the industry. Disney is king and queen driving the whole industry. You could fit universal inside Disney and it would be a small side attraction. Universal parks income 1.9 billion vs Disney 16.55 billion. Disney park profits are through the roof. They make more in profits vs universal’s gross income. |
If anyone or thing can build a bio dome capable of mimicking the weather in SO Cal. It’s Disney. I was in Disney a few weeks ago and I have to honestly say the weather wasn’t that great, lots of rain and wild swings in temperatures. I think a Disney Mega Dome in Chicago or any city really is a great idea. The dome will have a constant temp of 75, low humidity, 365 days of artificial sunlight, Disney magic will make it all look real, replete with a giant glowing yellow orb, blue skies, white puffy clouds and a gentle southerly wind. An entirely self contains bio dome, done right, could be infinitely better than the real thing. I’m building princess castles and sand castle in my mind right now. The artificial beaches will be safe to swim in too, since Chicago, and anywhere north of the Mason Dixon lacks anything close to alligators, crocodiles, man eating pythons or poisonous snakes). Plus no hurricanes! Get Lori on the phone! |
DeSantis is done. So glad he showed his true colors to the nation. A pale imitation of trump. Disney has already won. |
https://www.orangeobserver.com/article/desantis-dismantling-reedy-creek-wont-raise-taxes-on-orange-county-residents Wow vote Republican and get hammered by taxes. What is it with Florida republicans and huge tax increases? |
Orange and Osceola don’t vote for DeSantis so he doesn’t care if their property taxes go up. Because today’s Republicans govern only to benefit their supporters, not all the people. |
None of this has been worked out yet but thanks for the talking points. |
Sigh. . . Florida has the potential to be 50-50. Yes those counties did not vote with him but he cares about the margin or he will lose. |
| All that is going to happen here is the creation of a new district with just about the same powers to Disney. Sure there will be some concessions from Disney that sound good. But there will be no real change here. |
Just look at the spiraling stock at Disney and Netflix. |
