Carrie Bradshaw was not good looking enough for her dating life

She really doesn't look very sexual, at least not more sexual than Kim Cattrall character. No one accused KC of being ugly or not pretty enough for her dating life. And if you meant that SJP herself looks very sexual, that makes no sense either. Her clothes are not sexy per se and some choices are straight up goofy.

I do understand that her everlasting smile and her dolling up can confuse some men that she's generous in bed

Yes, exactly. She doesn’t have that which makes beautiful people untouchable; natural born beauty. A normal woman cannot compete with Angelina Jolie’s beauty and the wealth, status and privilege her beauty has brought her. But any average woman can look even better than SJP, with the right trainer, makeup artist and oodles of money. Hence the anger at her wealth and status as a fashion/ beauty icon. Women like her aren’t supposed to get opportunities reserved for the beautiful.

This is extremely insightful, and true of the way many DC area women feel. Not that they would admit it, of course:" I say you are not worthy, so that makes it so!" LOL.

I don't care as much about her looks compared to what an awful friend she was.

Carrie was the definition of a user & a taker -- even Sarah Jessica Parker said that.
Charlotte was a giver & Carrie was a taker.

Carrie either made everything about her; or she was about to make everything about her.

Remember her hissy fit when she felt entitled to Charlotte's engagement ring?
She thought Charlotte should sell it and give her the money, because she was so financially & fiscally irresponsible.

She put on this phoney act of "faux" concern in regards to Charlotte still wearing her engagement ring... SHE thought it wasn't healthy to do (she's the last one who should be dispensing advice on what's healthy).
She didn't care about Charlotte's health -- she wanted that damn ring.
So she manipulated & shamed her into selling it.

Carrie needed to buy her apartment or she had to get out, but of course she had NO savings, NO retirement, NO collateral, NO steady source of income (writing her columns were per diem, and she was paid by the word) & she had abysmal credit.

The only thing of value that she had was her overly abundant & ostentatious shoe collection. Look, I love shoes as much as the next woman, but I don't recklessly live above my means and make irresponsible choices & purchases with money I don't have... especially rent money.

She was never, ever there for anyone else, especially her closest 3 friends, and even the few times she pretended to actually be there for them, she'd always find a way to bring the attention back to her (ala Miranda and the bagels).

Carrie never did a single thing that didn't benefit her... she was never selfless.

Her looks were the least of her attributes she was bankrupt in.

Yes, I realize she was a fictional character a TV show was based around... it's a show that I loved too!

I actually didn't realize how morally bankrupt Carrie was, up until I rewatched the entire series again about 10 years after it ended (and I was 10 years wiser).

I really didn't mean to go into a whole dissertation about Carrie's faults, however I just don't like it when I see people putting her on a pedestal, like she was some Joan of Arc.

They tend to be thin and wear expensive labels. But compared to women in other cities, they aren’t that attractive. I moved from a flyover city where I was probably considered average and received an incredible amount of attention from men in NYC, including successful men. Friends from this flyover city would visit and would experience the same thing. Part of it was that men in NY are more aggressive, but it was also that the competition was lacking. Go and ride the NY subway around...people aren’t that attractive in NY.

People aren't that attractive anywhere. Most people in all cities are overweight and dumpy

Cities tend to be thinner and more fashion conscious.

Carrie Bradshaw is extremely pretty in Jewish cultures. She has a very distinguishable Jewish look -- the big nose, the face shape, the shorter stature (petite).

As an example, maybe many people don't find Will Smith attractive but he is very attractive. He just has a specific black look to him such as his wider nose.

Or maybe people don't find Lucy Liu attractive but she has specific Asian look such as smaller eyes.

I'm okay with anyone finding SJP (or WS or LL) ugly but I am just pointing out that in Ashkenazi Jewish circles, she is drop-dead gorgeous where there is a completely different standard of beauty so it's not surprising to me at all that her husband, who is Jewish, found her irresistibly beautiful. And I think anyone who is Jewish can see that she is incredibly good looking -- because that's familiar and attractive. And anyone who hasn't grown up around a lot of Jews may find that look to be less attractive. Also, of note, anti-Semitism is at an all time high so there may just be a lot more unconscious bias against that particular look right now.

I think Angelina Jolie just has a very French look -- actually so does Gal Gadot (who happens to be Jewish but just doesn't have a specific Ashkenazi Jewish look) - both tall, thin, dark hair, smaller noses, etc). So if that is the standard of beauty, then SJP, WS, and LL won't look like them.

Everyone is allowed to prefer their own culture, but SJP is ugly even compared to other Ashkenazi Jewish actresses: Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman. There's many and they are ALL better looking than her.

Lucy Lui is clearly attractive and Will Smith was never considered hot or attractive. He also never needed it.

The majority of jewish women will bang Will Smith before they bang the following : Seth Rogen, Adam Sandler, Seinfeld et al

Untrue for me and everyone I know. Especially when it comes to Seth Rogen. Signed, Ashekazi Jewish woman.

(maybe if you’d said Idris Elba… but Will Smith? He’s a dork. Pass!)

Will Smith is a dork ? Then what is Rogen? My God! No wonder some of you think sjp is some kind of godsend beauty. Sad .

Uh… Yes, Will Smith is a complete dork. Seth Rogen is a slacker/stoner type. Lots of women like a snarky, self-deprecating, sarcastic dude. Not as many like a bumbling nerd. How old are you that you can’t tell the different types apart?

There is no such thing as a dating league. People are way more than their looks. But Carrie looked amazing.

That's exactly what attraction is. She had a lot of charisma along with her looks, why she played the lead character. She was simply interesting.

I had a drop dead gorgeous client one time until he opened his mouth a few times. No charisma, or character which took away 99% of his attraction.

Defending their idol on Christmas...

I for one do not “idolize” her, nor do I idolize any celebrity, since I’m not 12. I’m pushing back on the idea that she is objectively unattractive, because beauty and attraction are always subjective. And its a coward who goes around slagging off celeb’s looks while hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. If you had to attach your photo to your posts, you’d be a lot more circumspect in what you post, since your vitriolic attacks open you up to judgment of your own looks.

Aww you seem really hurt.

SJP has natural beauty, Footloose, Honeymoon in Vegas. She has also a special star quality that has endured through her career. Sure, she could eat a biscuit but I just don't get the hater posters.

I forgot Honeymoon in Vegas. She was actually very pretty, but yes she had it all. Why men were attracted to her.

Yep that's exactly what OP and these women who are knocking her looks are doing. Pathetic

You go ahead and teach them that no matter the looks, they should date as many men as possible, until they are at least 39

Lol. Then have test tube babies and dress like a sorority girl when you are in your 50s. Dream big.

Why are you here if you hate women so much? Is this the only time you get to interact with women?

I think the issue is that to me she had an awful personality. Just completely self obsessed, a bit of of a gold digger (hence her expensive taste and terrible job), and whiny.

Personally, she’s ugly to me BUT I think that makes the show better. Like would it be really interesting to watch someone that is drop dead gorgeous dating all of these interesting men? That’s boring.

Carrie dressed for attention. The UES of NYC at the time was very basic. No internet shopping. Women went to the samestores and everyone had the same hair cut, shoes, bags, in just different colors.. she stood out.

I always thought Charlotte was the beauty and couldn't understand why she had a tougher time finding someone than Carrie did....

I am an Ashkenazi Jew, and I am very amused by this. I don't thunk SJP is ugly, but in my Ashkenazi Jewish circles she wouldn't be considered drop-dead gorgeous. That distinction would go to someone looking like Amy Irving.

PP, you do know that Any Irving is now in her late 60s, right?

Yes, and still looking fantastic.

But her looks circa 1970-80s were the first thing that came to mind when I thought of drop-dead gorgeous and Jewish. There are many beautiful actresses who are Jewish, but their beauty is more of a mainstream kind.

Personally I think equating general beauty or ugliness of a population with their ethnicity is straight up wrong. But if we're going to play that game SJP is only half Jewish and looks like her English and German heritage mom.

because worlds is not that simple? there are dozens upon dozens models and actresses (not to mention regular beautiful women) who never married or had kids (while wanting to).
