Anyway, the complaint is that she didn’t like her accommodations when filming and went to Wayfair to ask for money to get her security deposit back and get another apartment. Odd, but OK. It’s nice to be an actress I guess.

Apparently wayfarer agreed and they gave her the upgrade and then justin said something that made her uncomfortable about the sanctity of motherhood. So maybe weird inappropriate behavior, but doesn’t sound like sexual harassment?

But hey, she got a nice upgraded apartment in New York City. All of these people are really really strange and they all sound fragile to me.

+1 and the PP twists the details from the THR article in inaccurate ways. There was nothing in there that said Slate was trying to upgrade her housing, or that Wayfarer was paying for the upgrade. She said she was unhappy with the apartment she was renting because it posed some issues for her toddler but that she wasn't going to move because she didn't want to pay the 15k security deposit to get out of the lease. It's not even clear she asked them to pay for it -- it sounds like they volunteered.

I'd really like to know what Baldoni said that was so upsetting that Slate reported it to HR given that the conversation was about Wayfarer paying 15k to help her break her lease. I would put up with a lot of weirdness to save 15k! I feel like it must be something really bad.

Yes, sorry I said upgrade, Jenny was clearly asking to change the apartment which required a $15,000 security deposit which sounds pretty swanky to me so she could go rent a a shit hole for her and her toddler. Yes, I badly misconstrued it.

Give me a freaking break. These people are completely insufferable. I would love to find out why it was inappropriate for her toddler. I can’t stand these people and I used to absolutely love Jenny Slate and was going to get her book. Oh well.

I never heard of Jenny Slate, Justin Baldoni, Brandon whatvever his name is, or the actor playing young Lily. I never cared about Ryan Reynolds or Blake Lively, was never a fan of either of them. Never saw IEWU and don’t plan to. I am just obsessed with this case because it’s just so eye opening into how gross and entitled so many, if not all, of these people are. They all just seem like such stunted, immature, entitled, crappy people. All of them. But Baldoni is innocent imo.

This is what happens when a bunch of bratty whiny millenials get together and try to make a movie.

There are a lot of aspects of religion in general and his religion or Scientology or any other religion that are hard to talk about without being critical to some degree. This article is clearly trying to take a different angle and say something new instead of rehashing the same points. While it is a bit bizarrely written and the artwork is well....something else...better to read than just another droning on about the same ol.

Ba'hai is not a proselytizing faith or anything like scientology though of course the article goes there. There is also lots of negative twisting being done over absolutely mild, nothing things like having a team building exercise, being too worried about people's well being (?!). I looked up the writer and he was sued for defamation before. It'd be interesting to know if he is connected to BL and RR.

I have mixed feelings about this. I don't think the article criticizes Baha'í faith, but is highlighting that Wayfarer was created by people who are linked by their religious affiliation. I have known Baha'í people and there is nothing sketchy or weird about them, they just belong to a religion that has a fairly small following. But if Baldoni, Sarowitz, and Heath all knew each other from he same Baptist church, or the same synagogue, or were all part of the Greek Orthodox community, I think they'd talk about it in a similar way. Not to impugn the religion but more to highlight that there may be in-group/out-group dynamics at the company due to that religious affiliation.

I once worked somewhere that a lot of people in management were in open marriages and part of a local community of polyamorous people. I don't have any problem with polyamory and think people should do what they want in their relationships. However, the fact that polyamory was kind of part of the this of this organization DID impact the experience of working there, especially for those of us who were not polyamorous. Now, no one ever tried to convert me, but often people would bring their personal life to work in surprising (and not always productive) ways because they viewed it as a safe place where they could talk about being poly. I could see a similar situation with a faith like Baha'í because it's a small religion without a ton of followers so I could see them thinking of the organization as an extension of their religious in a way that you wouldn't see if they were part of a more mainstream religion, or if they belonged to different religions and knew each other a different way.

Omg PP we need a new thread about your workplace - that sounds fascinating and frankly a lot more interesting than this lawsuit!

Did we know that Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman has his own independent relationship with Jed Wallace, i.e., has used him in previous cases/problems? Probably (since this is from a week old article) but I had missed this:

“Wallace has his own relationship with Bryan Freedman, the prominent attorney representing Baldoni and Wayfarer. He told Variety that while he wouldn’t describe Wallace as a fixer, he’s an extraordinarily adept and well-resourced operator across international jurisdictions. (Both that publication as well as The Hollywood Reporter spoke to individuals who compared Wallace to Ray Donovan, the eponymous problem-solver for entertainment elites on the Showtime series.)

“The extent of Freedman’s professional involvement with Wallace is unclear. The lawyer’s own crisis publicist briefly included Wallace in correspondence during the 2024 reporting of a THR profile that Freedman considered adversarial. ….

“Last year, a tech CEO named Christian Lanng alleged in a defamation and extortion action that Freedman’s law firm “hired third parties to create deepfake stories” by utilizing counterfeit websites and inauthentic social media accounts “in an attempt to leverage a higher settlement” against him. Lanng later claimed that an unnamed consultant had pseudonymously posted on X, formerly Twitter, as a fictitious character, claiming to have been sexually victimized by the chief executive and encouraging others to come forward to Freedman. This consultant’s other plans purportedly included trolling on Reddit forums that would harm the opponent and his company.

In court, Freedman has denied these claims, and he’s previously told THR it “sounds like a spy novel about the CIA.” Now Lanng’s lawyer Christopher Frost says of the Wallace revelations, “we’re watching this matter closely.” He adds of their own assertion of a “social media smear campaign”: “If those [Lanng] allegations were met with any skepticism, I suspect there is less skepticism today,” given Wallace’s since-publicized connection to Freedman.”

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/justin-baldoni-alleged-fixer-jed-wallace-bryan-freedman-1236135226/

So maybe it’s some sort of team group protection because if one goes down, they all do? Mutually assured destruction. Suggests that Freedman is going to work very hard to prevent anything really damaging to come out about Wallace, because if it does, it also destroys Freedman and/or hinders his ability to serve clients in the same way he has in the past in the future.

For all folks talk about Reynolds’s etc, to me it seems like *this* is the actual real nasty business. Remember, Lively and her PR rep were checking in with each other to make sure they weren’t negatively affecting coverage to hurt Baldoni, meanwhile Lively was taking huge hits (some maybe self inflicted but it’s clear to me at least that some were not) kind of unprotected. The stuff described in this article is the reason I’m interested in this case and I hope this case will provide some precedent to kill these practices and make them extremely cost prohibitive. I don’t even care that much if the costs have to be paid by Baldoni or Sarowitz (though I think they should) — even if the judgment just goes against the PR firm, it will be worth it.

You can't read. She was paying for her own apartment. NYC real estate is insanely expensive and deposits can be highway robbery. Normally you'd get it back but she wanted to leave early because there was some problem with the apartment for her kid. She didn't want to lose a 15k deposit because that's a huge amount of money, even for a famous actor. Already the cost of accommodations in NYC we're probably eating into her paycheck for the movie.

We have no idea what Heath said. I think it's weird you've written Slate off for this. It sounds like she didn't want to come forward, was dragged into it by Lively and maybe THR, and we still have no idea what Heath said that was bad enough to make her report it.

It's super weird to me that your conclusion from that is "I hate Jenny Slate." Take a breath.

You do realize the studio pays for accommodations for actors while they’re working? She wasn’t paying for any of that.

No they don't always pay for the accommodations. Jenny lives in NYC. She wasn't traveling there for work. There is zero context on what this situation is about and you're already ready to burn her at the stake with misinformation.

And everyone was ready to burn Justin at the stake for grabbing her butt. Everyone needs to chill.

I don’t think people were as upset over that one as the other one about the sex scene with the young actress. Honestly, I don’t like Baldoni and I even posted here that I didn’t even believe the latter allegation. I don’t think anyone here took those YouTube complaints that seriously.

From the start in this back in August, I was really turned off by Jenny and Blake and their unprofessionalism with promotion of this movie. Obviously Blake took it to a whole other level with her completely terrible interviews about domestic violence, launching a frivolous business, and shilling her alcohol line as part of the promotion, but what really turned me off about her and Jenny was just how disrespectful they were toward Justin.

I am sure we have all had workplace disputes and not gotten along with people, but you pull it together for the client or the meeting or whatever you need to do. Hollywood is littered with absolutely terrible relationships, but people pull it together for the promotion of the film, and then they move on with their lives. If it was some magic formula that public disputes would translate to box office gold I’m sure we would see more of it, but “don’t worry, darling” was not exactly a box office hit so I don’t think it translates.

So yeah, I just thought it was total mean girl stuff at the time, especially when he was being so professional.

Fast-forward to all of these things coming out and I still don’t see what would’ve caused this. I will need to learn more about Jenny slates situation but it sounds like they bent over backwards to accommodate her? I’m not sure why they would pay a security deposit for an actress who lives in New York City in the first place? And then it sounds like he’s socially awkward and said something about motherhood that she didn’t like, but why runoff to HR? I’m going to try not to judge until I get more context, but it really just seems like they decided that they were just going to bully this guy. Which is fine, go to HR and file a complaint. But then I don’t know why you have to air it out in August 2024 and just be so mean during the promotion.

Comments don't have to be sexual to be sexual harrassment - the definition includes offensive comments related to gender as well.

Oh well.

There has been absolutely no official allegation tying Jenny to that accusation. Just rumors on top of rumors. Why not wait and see what the official story is?

Oh I agree. I didn’t make my point well, which was that two days ago the internet went wild speculating about those two fake claims. And now everyone is speculating once again. We should wait for more info before we decide if it’s even relevant to this case.
