Blake Lively- Jason Baldoni and NYT - False Light claims

I’m really curious how this movie made so much money. It’s currently grossed over $350 million, which is a crazy amount for a domestic violence film. Baldwin has come nowhere close to these numbers — Five Feet Apart grossed 45 million but Clouds grossed far less, I can’t even find real numbers but maybe only $2 million? Lively’s A Simple Favor (I) with Kendrick grossed about $100 million. I don’t think Hoover’s ever come close to this before. Was the success in fact from all the controversy? Was Reynold’s promotion firm really successful here? $350 million is a lot of viewers.

Apparently, Jenny‘s complaint about the sanctity of motherhood comment was about Jamey Heath, not Justin.

Maybe this was the plan all along, sort of reverse psychology. Even negative attention is better than no attention.

No,no. You guys are missing that Colleen Hoover‘s book was hugely popular. People have been waiting for this movie to be made for years and there was a lot of attention on it as soon as it was announced. She has a ginormous fan base. Another one of her books, verity, is being made with Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, and Dakota Johnson.

I personally don’t understand the popularity of the books, but she is a huge deal. This was a really covered role that Blake scored.

Sorry, should say coveted role.

IEWU is the most money a romantic drama has grossed since 2018's A Star Is Born. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/box-office-milestone-ends-us-191253537.html Is it possible that for all the absolute roasting Lively received for not discussing the serious issue of domestic violence enough (and following what Sony/their PR firm told her of keeping promotion on the film relatively light in tone), maybe the PR firm was right about keeping things light? If they had hit the issues hard, would they have made nowhere near this amount of money? Even so, this seems like much more than a normal romantic drama. Did all the Lively Instagram followers who hadn't dropped her yet actually put on their florals and go to the movies? Seems like it was a combo of a bunch of these factors plus the controversy, maybe. It's *by far* the most successful movie ever of everyone involved.

Anyway, the complaint is that she didn’t like her accommodations when filming and went to Wayfair to ask for money to get her security deposit back and get another apartment. Odd, but OK. It’s nice to be an actress I guess.

Apparently wayfarer agreed and they gave her the upgrade and then justin said something that made her uncomfortable about the sanctity of motherhood. So maybe weird inappropriate behavior, but doesn’t sound like sexual harassment?

But hey, she got a nice upgraded apartment in New York City. All of these people are really really strange and they all sound fragile to me.

Comments don't have to be sexual to be sexual harrassment - the definition includes offensive comments related to gender as well.

+1 and the PP twists the details from the THR article in inaccurate ways. There was nothing in there that said Slate was trying to upgrade her housing, or that Wayfarer was paying for the upgrade. She said she was unhappy with the apartment she was renting because it posed some issues for her toddler but that she wasn't going to move because she didn't want to pay the 15k security deposit to get out of the lease. It's not even clear she asked them to pay for it -- it sounds like they volunteered.

I'd really like to know what Baldoni said that was so upsetting that Slate reported it to HR given that the conversation was about Wayfarer paying 15k to help her break her lease. I would put up with a lot of weirdness to save 15k! I feel like it must be something really bad.

Yes, sorry I said upgrade, Jenny was clearly asking to change the apartment which required a $15,000 security deposit which sounds pretty swanky to me so she could go rent a a shit hole for her and her toddler. Yes, I badly misconstrued it.

Give me a freaking break. These people are completely insufferable. I would love to find out why it was inappropriate for her toddler. I can’t stand these people and I used to absolutely love Jenny Slate and was going to get her book. Oh well.

You can't read. She was paying for her own apartment. NYC real estate is insanely expensive and deposits can be highway robbery. Normally you'd get it back but she wanted to leave early because there was some problem with the apartment for her kid. She didn't want to lose a 15k deposit because that's a huge amount of money, even for a famous actor. Already the cost of accommodations in NYC we're probably eating into her paycheck for the movie.

We have no idea what Heath said. I think it's weird you've written Slate off for this. It sounds like she didn't want to come forward, was dragged into it by Lively and maybe THR, and we still have no idea what Heath said that was bad enough to make her report it.

It's super weird to me that your conclusion from that is "I hate Jenny Slate." Take a breath.

You do realize the studio pays for accommodations for actors while they’re working? She wasn’t paying for any of that.

No they don't always pay for the accommodations. Jenny lives in NYC. She wasn't traveling there for work. There is zero context on what this situation is about and you're already ready to burn her at the stake with misinformation.

And everyone was ready to burn Justin at the stake for grabbing her butt. Everyone needs to chill.

There has been absolutely no official allegation tying Jenny to that accusation. Just rumors on top of rumors. Why not wait and see what the official story is?

Oh I agree. I didn’t make my point well, which was that two days ago the internet went wild speculating about those two fake claims. And now everyone is speculating once again. We should wait for more info before we decide if it’s even relevant to this case.

Totally agree. I don't understand why THR thought it was appropriate to add the section Slate without expanded. Everyone is so desperate to be the first with some scoop. I agree with someone's earlier comment that whatever happened was in the past for Jenny. She reported like she should've if she felt uncomfortable and moved on. Her IG comments have been awful and that feels wrong.

I’m okay with discussing the case in chat forums (obviously)—but spewing hate directly at these people is something that shouldn’t be happening. That’s its own form of harassment, which, ironically, people don’t care anything about.

It’s like the Twilight Series, never got the appeal of those.

I mean, okay, but Come. On. Three past Hoover books have been made into movies: Ugly Love, Confess, and Maybe Someday, and none of them have made anywhere near this much money. I don't think I've heard of them, even. Not that fans may not have been looking out for this one, particularly, but are you really saying that would get the movie to $350M? I think It Ends With Us sold one or two million last year - that's not really getting into the half-of-a-Marvel-movie where the film's gross wound up, as far as I'm aware.

I don’t think I live under a rock but I have never heard of Colleen Hoover or her books. What demographic is this geared towards?

Anne Hathaway is an Oscar winner. SHe has her pick of any roles. The fact that she’s doing verity means these movies are going to be seen. I think you are really over estimating Blake here and really underestimating the machine that is Colleen Hoover.

The book had over ten million sales - that was a bigger draw than BL

Sorry, but if you’ve been in an airport, you’ve been surrounded by her books. She is huge in terms of best sellers.

I think the person who made the twilight comparison is spot on. I personally don’t get the appeal of those books, but people loved them. And I think the movie did so well not because people were running out to see Kristen Stewart, much as I love her. It’s about the reputation of the books.

This one was particularly big because it has a sequel. It was going to be a franchise.
