Vomiting after intense workout?

Anonymous
I just started attending classes at Orange Theory Fitness and while I love the workout, I don't like throwing up after the workout or near the end of the workout. It's happened the last two times that I have attended classes. I am admittedly in pretty bad shape and significantly overweight. The workouts are challenging but I do what I can and feel pretty good afterward other than the throwing up part. I'm careful in not pushing myself too hard because my goal is keep exercising and losing weight. I certainly don't need an injury or something that prevents me from moving.

In the past, I have never had any issues with exercise induced vomiting. Is this something that will go away as I get used to the workout and what can I do to combat it?

Thanks for the advice.

OP here. I really appreciate the advise. Both workouts have been in the morning. I've eaten a banana before each workout with some water. I know that I went into the first workout kind of dehydrated and probably drank too much water just before which wasn't good. I thought Sunday's workout would turn out better but perhaps I need to make some adjustments. I also am trying to work on my hydration on days before the workout as well. I will definitely talk to the instructor for some suggested modifications.

Do you have recommendations for any pre-workout shakes which would be good to try?

Thanks again!

I work out fasted. I simply cannot work out with food in my stomach, even if I'm just hiking. Hence I do everything first thing in the morning.

OP, you might not even need food right before your workout. Your body has plenty of fuel already.

I also can't eat before working out. If I eat anything at all within 2 hours, I will be nauseous.

I've vomited a few times after workouts, always when I was dehydrated and had low blood sugar. For me, it's not a fitness issue, it's a blood sugar issue. I make sure to have candy (just a few sour patch kids or starburst) on hand post-hot yoga, and that takes care of it.

Hmmm - I guess everyone is different. I feel ill if I try to workout on an empty stomach. I have experimented and find that I need a little protein and carbs, like a half bagel with some peanut butter. I got sick when I ate a banana and ran. Good luck.
