ECNL moving to school year not calendar

I am not the mysterious person who posted the "week before xmas" but, I would bet a whole lot on Aug 1st b/c that's what they did prior to 2017.

I can tell the decision has been made and the change is coming most probably by fall 2025 as they are still working out the logistical formats.

They know its 60% will embrace it and that is why they have brought together the 3 largest governing bodies of youth soccer so they can have everyone on the same page.

The announcement will be made most probably the week before Christmas.

Can you find out the date they’re using as a cutoff?

Don't feed the trolls.

A club is hosting a town hall meeting on 12/10 to discuss the age group change. I hope we can have the news before that date.

That's vague. What league?

Without stating who I am, I can only say the board spent most of their time reading online forums and trying to imagine who wrote which post. Most board members turned out to be amateurs painters who managed to sketch almost three dozen images. Needless to say, most images were of overweight men in their 40s, about 50% of whom were bold or were hats.

I could also confirm that there was a big debate on the matter of birth year. It finally came down to an arm wrestling match between ECNL CEO and an angry Q2 parent during the happy hour. It led to a draw. The beer pong battle followed, it was still a tie. Finally, during the after party, it became obvious that education level, income and gender played a crucial part in how everyone voted on the cutoff. The poor and uneducated mainly favored 7/1 cutoff but highly educated and wealthy women had some other ideas on their mind.

In the end, only one thing was agreed. That it was too much fun to watch everyone argue on the internet. And everyone wanted to keep the mega threads alive until Christmas or maybe even until April 1.

If ECNL is the only league to do SY in 25/26 while other leagues plan to do in 26/27, then ECNL, RL and pre ECNL will grab many good Q3/Q4 players, esp. the upcoming trap players from other leagues.

That’s a good point

The last time they made the change in September and gave everyone some time to implement it but just about everyone went ahead and started using it in their next registration. I think telling a team they would delay breaking up a team for another year won’t inspire much confidence unless that team is in its last year. Teams that will have their youngest play up won’t really won’t be affected internally although the level of their competition might increase.

💯, my daughter will be a trapped 8th grader next year on a GA club. We will switch to ECNL even though it adds a bigger inconvenience getting to and from practice if this happens.

I doubt your kid is on a GA team.

I also doubt that you'll drive an extra 30 minutes to and from practice just because of a rule change.

If you throw enough things at the wall, something will stick eventually.

She is and we will. If this is the difference between having a full season this year and not having to worry about having 3/4 of her team playing for recruits when she is just a freshman and can't be recruited. Or having a crappy junior year experience. The list goes on.
