The outfit is inappropriate for the event (what's new), but I don't hate it for something else. It would've looked cute at the picnic last night.

The outfit is perfectly appropriate for watching a parade. Good grief.

The problem is that no one else, including Melania, is dressed parade-appropriate. I like her outfit, but it still looks wrong because it doesn't match how anyone else is dressed. I almost wonder if someone in the WH social office is doing this to her on purpose.

Hilarious you think any person but Melania has a say over Melania’s outfits

I don't know who picks her clothes, and it's irrelevant to this point. It would help Usha to know what Melania is planning to wear.

Is that actually a thing? Someone lets the Second Lady’s office know what the First Lady intends to wear? Sounds made up to me.

There is definitely a WH social office.

I am way less important than SLOTUS, but I am always given a dress code and tips on what people more important than me are wearing for public events.

Are y'all going to actually post these "parade inappropriate" outfits or not?

Yes, she is.

And those orange pants are grotesquely tight in her crotch. That is going to look so bad after she sits down for any length of time.

She's the only person having fun b/c she brought children to a parade. I don't like this crowd but seriously, she looks cute, patriotic and like she's having fun showing her kids a parade.

I agree but apparently no one else was wearing parade type wear. And her husband in a suit and tie wasn’t either. It’s like when you go to a baclyard BBQ wearing shorts and a tee and then find out it’s actually like a British garden party and everyone is wearing floral dresses and hats. It’s a very cute outfit for a parade but apparently everyone else was treating this as a much more formal somber event and it’s like no one bothered to tell Usha that.

People are being way too mom-ish about this being a "parade" like you're taking your kids and going to be sitting in the sun and passing out goldfish. Her outfit was fine for that. Everyone else took it as a serious state event to honor Trump's birthday and dressed in more formal business attire. Your outfit can be cute but you can't really have nailed it if you look like "the cheese stands alone" who was the only one who didn't get the dress code memo.

….honor the United States Army’s 250th birthday… FIFY.

That was intentional.

Well, yes, according to his flunkies, but you know Trump thought it was for him.

Exactly. Honestly if I saw a mom wearing that at the 4th of July parade in my parents' beach town, I'd be like, okay best dressed! It was a lovely outfit for A patriotic parade. It was not the right outfit for THIS patriotic parade.

I stand by my earlier statement that it's like no one is bothering to tell her, or maybe they do and she just thinks she's too good to follow the rules. Maybe she just doesn't notice or care? To be honest, it's incredibly weird she and JD presumably left the house at the same time, she saw him in his suit and tie, and didn't realize it was more formal than she was anticipating. If my husband and I were going to an event, and I came downstairs wearing her outfit but saw my husband in a suit and tie, I'd be like...oh, shit, do I need to go change?

No, I really don’t know that, and the fact you think you do shows you didn’t watch it. It celebrated the Army and was really informative and well done, right down to the president’s speech at the end.

I can’t believe Usha Vance wearing pants and a top to go to a parade with three young children is really that remarkable. I mean I guess heels and a dress would have been an option, but have you ever actually taken kids to a parade? Since JD had comments to deliver, she was primary caregiver and should be comfortable. Had she been dressed up you’d all be piling on about how why she wasn’t dressed appropriately to take care of them at a long parade. She can’t win either way.

Yes, a more apt comparison would be looking at Princess Kate at the last parade she took her kids to (Trooping of the Colour). How is she dressed and how are her kids dressed? This is clearly how the rest of the Trump admin were viewing this event vs Usha.

Exactly. Will was in his formal RAF uniform and Kate had her standard coat dress on. JD had a suit on, so Usha really should've been in something comparable to a suit, probably a work-appropriate dress or even a nice blouse and skirt combo.
