US Capitol Breached by Trump's lunatics

Biden is very unappealing to us Republicans, but he should be campaigning on January 6th. I don’t think I can vote for Trump after skimming the last few pages of this thread and remembering his inaction on January 6th. So dangerous for our democracy.

I hope you live in a swing state, PP.

I live in North Carolina. My sense is that the state will go to Trump, but that we will elect a Dem governor. But reminding folks of January 6th may help swing the state to Biden. Plus, a ton of liberals have been moving to the state from CA and NY, so it may be more blue than it was in 2016/2020.

Michael Brooks, the senior enlisted leader of the D.C. guard at the time of the riot, and Brigadier Gen. Aaron Dean, the adjutant general of the D.C. guard at the time, told House Administration Committee staffers that if Trump had reached out that day — which, by all accounts, he did not — he might have helped cut through the chaos amid a tangle of conflicting advice and miscommunication.”

This is the primary reason, an indisputable reason, Trump should never hold public office again. A mob of hundreds breached security at the US Capitol and he, as the sitting president, sat a mile away and watched it on TV for hours without doing anything as his staff and family frantically tried to push him into action. Biden may be a very weak presidential candidate for the job through 2029 but he is qualified for the position. Trump's failure to fulfill his duties as Commander-in-Chief that day disqualify him permanently in the minds of any sane American. Integrity matters most.

Pretty sure he was involved in the planning of said coup. That to me is even more disqualifying, though I suppose this we all got to watch.

Whether or not J6 should be considered a coup attempt or an insurrection is up for debate. There is some gray area in that debate. We know for sure a mob of hundreds forcefully breached security at the US Capitol and our president watched it happen for several hours while ignoring pleas for help and doing nothing to assist in securing the building and the safety of many high ranking government officials inside. Emails, text message, tweets, phone records and testimony under oath by those in Trump's inner circle exposed exactly what Trump was doing and where he was from the time security was first breached at the Capitol to the time the building was secured. The partisan crowd can debate where or not this was a coup attempt but there is nothing to debate regarding Trump's inaction after a mob of hundreds forcefully breached security at the US Capitol.

It really isn't up for debate. Trump orchestrated the whole thing in concert with the 'fake elector" scheme to try to steal the election (ie a coup)

Dp- the point is the debate doesn’t matter. You don’t have to convince people Trump was responsible. He had a responsibility to protect our nation and he sat on his ass. We know he watched TV and did nothing. That alone is disqualifying. And possibly a simple and better argument with “bothsides independents”. Don’t get dragged into the weeds, just keep it to the point. Commander in chief is supposed to protect, and he has proven he won’t. The end.

After today’s SCOTUS farce what do you put the odds that all jan6’ers are freed? I think it is about 95% right now.

Dear moderate Republican in NC, thank you for voting for Biden in 2020 and hopefully again in 2024. If you think Trump is a threat to our country please speak with like minded folks in your state.
I volunteer for NC Dem but we need Republicans to help move other Republicans. I hope you will consider.

She is clearly talking about the lack of accountability to the AOC and Captiol Police Force. The AOC, prior to 1/6 was under the Presidential appointee list. No longer, that is one of many reforms.

The idea that the right thinks this is some sort of smoking gun on Pelosi is laughable. And why Pelosi and not McConnell, who has just as much oversight and power as Pelosi did?

The whole line of attack is so stupid. “It’s your fault that there wasn’t a bigger security force to put down our insurrection faster.”

So interesting how the "textualists" keep putting words into statutes that aren't actually there when it fits their preferred political outcome.
