He 100% applied |
No he didn’t |
Not true. Varsity players do not ever play for JV at Landon. You’re either on varsity or JV - no one swings. |
Whether he did or didn’t doesn’t matter. His resume is incredibly thin vs the candidate they selected (if the rumor is true). |
Huge step down for hilgartner But it could include the ad job. |
Not a huge step down. HC spot at GP is a huge step up. McD is a lacrosse powerhouse, but that’s it. GP has got a worldwide network of renowned alumni. |
How does that help a 54 year old career lax guy? The MIAA is a way better lax conference and is recognized as such nationally. It's the best all around conference in Baltimore and is easily better than the IAC overall. BTW - he won't be given a house, he will be given a house to live in rent free. The Athletic Director position makes a little sense since Paro is in his mid 60's and doesn't want to keep up with the new recruiting era. |
And with the decline of lacrosse in the IAC and the coming dissolution of the IAC, it makes even less sense. The AD position along with the movement from a regional school to a national school is the only thing making sense. |
Hi Prep Homer… McDonogh has a lot more money than Georgetown Prep. Go compare endowments. |
the whole IAC is falling apart, the member schools aren't aligned with the direction of the league.
Prep has outgrown the IAC and with its recent push to be more of a boarding school, it will either join the WCAC or go independent. Saint Stephens is better suited for the MAC. The Saints are the smallest school in the IAC in terms of enrollment and its athletics overall are rather weak. Episcopal can join the Virginia Independent League which is comprised of day and boarding schools (FUMA, Woodberry Forest, Norfolk Academy, St Chris, Collegiate, Blue Ridge, STAB, Cape Henry, Trinity Episcopal) Landon, Bullis and STA are in a weird situation and might be homeless if the league truly does fall apart. Maybe these schools join the MIAA A or B division in the next couple of years, time will tell. |
It makes sense if Prep wants to leave the IAC. He can guide them. It makes sense if it also includes the AD position.
Didn’t his youngest just graduate? Maybe he wants a change after decades. While McDonough is in a lovely part of Maryland, maybe he wants a more robust city and a new challenge. It could be as simple as that. If it is true. For people in the know, when will this be announced. |
Prep has a much stronger reputation as an institution. True. Outside of sports, McD not well known. |
Don't know. But, as far as I know, Millon no longer has anymore sons that can go through HS and, thus, the incentive for him to push players in that direction dimishes. If the news is true, maybe the McD coach sees a drop off coming and figures it is a good time to look at other opportunities. |
This all makes sense until you have to put together a sports schedule for a team not football. You move away from a league and you lose the ability to easily schedule games for your soccer team, your baseball team, you wrestling team, etc. It isn't that you can't find games in the early part of a season but for a sport like lacrosse, you are going to have to find games in April when all your other former league opponents have league games - you will need to grab bag games with opponents from all over the place. Certainly can mean playing games against Lawrenceville et al. but that is a lot of travel for high school kids in non-revenue sports. If you want to think of the equivalent it is why ND football team is independent but all their other sports but hockey play in the ACC and Hockey plays in the B1G. Not say it can't be done but a move like that has unintended consequences. |
Don’t listen to the “Prep wants to leave the IAC” stuff. That’s pure conjecture based on almost nothing of substance. I guess it’s possible that Paro might retire, but he’d have to give up a free house. And his mentor, Jim Fegan, is over 90 and still at Prep. They would have to force him out and that would be hard to do. He got the job with a significant push from alums from his Prep class. The other schools might tire of competing with Prep but the school’s larger size doesn’t seem to be having any significant impact on the various sport. And Landon, Bullis and STA don’t have anywhere else to go. I can see EHS and SSSA considering alternatives. You could put together a private school league in which the schools would rarely have to cross over the American Legion bridge at rush hour. SSSA, EHS, Potomac, Flint Hill, BI and O’Connell would be a good all- Nova, all sports league. |
