+1 to all of this, especially Rita. It was implied that Rita's son served in the military - I had always assumed the military of Gilead, but the fact that Marthas were essentially chattel made me re-think that. I want Rita's backstory so badly now. I feel like they've started with re-imagining the relationship between Rita and the Waterfords. In previous seasons I had always taken it that Rita wanted to, or was ok with being there, but in truth it may be much more like June's experience.

We had so much of Emily's backstory that I would really like an update - where has she landed professionally? And she's the only one that has rejoined her intact family who left before Gilead really became Gilead. I feel like devoting some time to that would be worth it. Like an episode or part of one with Clea Duvall trying to find Emily, did she know she was a Handmaid or not know anything?

I am confused about Emily? Is it because they don’t have Clea Duvall in this season? How come we don’t see whether she returned to her family and how it’s going now?

Emily gave us the update--they live together and share Oliver, but are not back to sharing a bedroom yet due to Emily's trauma. Prospects for a happy ending look good. Wasn't she working with Moira at the refugee center?

Fair enough, but I want more. And why is super smart scientist Emily working at a refugee center? Dumb.

Maybe because she wants to pay it forward? Maybe because she can't contemplate doing abstract scientific work while healing from a devastating trauma?

I think she just volunteers there a bit but isn't an employee. She's been in Canada for a while, but in that one scene Emily acts like a newbie who needs to be told what to do and reassured by Moira, who does work there full-time. Or am I confusing her with Rita in that scene?

Yes he said that about June when she was locked up.

This episode was lame, not enough happened. I can’t spend the whole time focused on the trauma. In the early seasons it was always balanced with batshit and fascinating Gilead world building stuff. There’s just not enough plot this season.

I cried during the scene where she talks to Luke about seeing Hannah, but the rest of it was a slog. That kind of scene deserves to be set in a good episode. I thought the yelling at Serena thing was bad writing and it just didn’t work.

I think the only “new” scene in the promo is the two people sitting with piles of paper around them and maybe one shot from the courtroom or wherever we’re going to see Makeover June seek “Justice.”

That's interesting because I liked this episode a lot more than the previous one which bored the pants off me.
I thought when she went nasty with Serena it was an echo of Lydia - kind of the evil coming full circle. But I agree the scene with Luke was really poignant and well done.

I do generally find her annoying the past few seasons and so over dramatic, but her screaming at Serena seemed like exactly the right thing to do. June doesn’t owe Serena any mercy and quite frankly I would be mad if she showed her any. That is not in June’s character anymore and it certainly isn’t in line with a woman who’s daughter was ripped out her arms by these people and then used as a sick pawn. Serena is a monster.

I'll be really disappointed if this is the case. He is the only character in the series who officially represents the United States Government in exile. It would be a real loss for the storytelling, IMO, if he doesn't remain a faithful servant of the U.S.
