| I agree that the wealthy will always find a way, but the article does address the salient fact that vaccine hesitation exists in the Black community. That is a big hurdle. To overcome it takes time, but you also need to be creative. On the other hand, DC needs to get shots in arms. By getting anyone who wants one a shot it will help protect our greater community against variants. It's a difficult position, which is why DC is botching it on both accounts. |
Elderly residents going to a different ward to get vaccinated because there is little available in their own ward is not a loophole. Are you insane? All the public health advice is to get vaccinated after when you are eligible. That’s what they are doing! |

All public-health research available says you can have either equity or you can have efficiency. Pick one. You can't have both. DC chose equity and here we are: Even the prioritized population still isn't getting vaccinated enough, along with the rest of non-prioritized DC residents, who even with more vaccine available probably will not be fully vaccinated until late summer. Meanwhile our coronavirus numbers are starting to go in the wrong direction again.
The proper plan is getting the most shots into the most arms at the greatest rate, and things will be better for everyone. DC's plan is a dismal failure. |
This is human behavior. Certainly not some sort of sole survival instinct found in wealthy people. The DC Health debacle is not a PR win for the city. That is why DC is positioning itself the way it is. |
Nice theory but not the case. Public record that Chevy Chase Circle has twenty doses a day. |
Which works out to 100 per week, same as every other Giant and Safeway site. The point is that they aren't being shortchanged, as PP implies. |

There is no real issue of racism in the equity of vaccine distribution in dc. The broader issue is whether the black community is open to actually taking the vaccine. https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/04/health/vaccine-trust-black-adults-nfid-survey/index.html
The anti-VAXX movement hurts people of every race. However black people seem to be scared of it based on historical distrust from their treatment in America. I also see wealthy people who have bought into the vaccination fear, but they mostly approach it from the strange holistic, “I eat healthy and vaccines could disrupt my dna or give my kid autism” or whatever dumbfik reason. Also, I know people who practice traditional Chinese medicine or alternative healing medicine and they bind the same sort of bullsht. You can only lead so many horses to water. |
Why does PP believe that every Giant and Safeway receive 100 doses a week or twenty a day. It is simply not true. The sites were selected by the city. Not EVERY Giant and Safeway are carrying COVID 19 vaccine. And in fact only one in Ward 3 is. That was a city decision. And now the city is doubling down on that decision by not selecting a CVS there with their latest CVS contract. |

Yes, this is what the Fed does. And the Mayor and her staff should sell the Fed on DC being an attractive site. But it simply does not fit the narrative. The fact that DC Health does not hire a capture agent who does nothing but look for outside of the city resources to help the city fight COVID is astonishing. Why aren't we looking at other city best practices. Why haven't we figured out why Danville VA and Philly were accepted into the program and we were not and then modify our sales pitch. This is similar to talking to someone attempting to contract with the fed for the first time. If you do not speak Fed, you will never land the contract. They operate of different timelines and cycles. You can complain about it, or you can pay somebody to package your requirements into Fed opportunities. You would think that DC, who is funded by the Fed (Don't talk to me about our amazing budget) would actually know how to interface with the Fed. But this is some sort of DC statehood long game and the Mayor sees us as collateral damage. |
| I’ve lived in DC for 25 years. After doing everything right for 13 months I just got my vaccine, in Virginia. I won’t forget this Mayor Bowser and Mary Cheh. |
Do you have a health condition? Are you a teacher? How old are you? What made you think you would be eligible to be vaccinated in March? |
Other states have reached the point where a much larger percentage of the population is eligible much sooner than in DC. The city is failing in the most basic function of government: public health and safety. |
+ same for moco. |
+1 Leaders need to take a two pronged approach to address this: 1. vaccinate based on phases so people who are eligible aren't having to play the "find my vaccine" game 2. implement a better strategy to get the black/hispanic group to get vaccinated |
