I see a lot on here about the drama within the administration....but how is the SOCCER? How are the teams doing in their leagues: ODSL/WAGS/ NCSL/VPL? |
Some very well. Some very badly. Some in the middle. |
So if your kid is doing well on an A-team, what is there to complain about? Which teams are losing all the players, A-teams, B-teams, or all the teams? |
I am not sure who is spreading rumors of VYS losing players. If anything, we are seeing the opposite - players coming back after sampling what other clubs have to offer. |
I think ALL the clubs are going to see players leaving with the new birth-year mandate, mainly because the parents don't understand the mandate and the kids don't want to play with different kids, or other kids who they see as "below" them. |
What age group/gender does this pertain to? |
In our club (not VYS) the policy picks at U-9 are now having a head time finding themselves on a "low" tryout field for the first time at U-12. Though small sided scrimmages only do not showcase a lot of talent. There really needs to be more skill evaluation---2v2; 1v1 and full field as well as some juggling eval. The frantic ball hogs that dribble it into the ground are still the ones noticed. Smart playing---smart passing, playing to space, opening the field--you mine as well be invisible. |
How does 2v2's and 1v1's demonstrate passing or playing to space? |
Right, it is totally feasible to do 1v1s to evaluate skills when you have over 100 kids trying out on one field. |
How many kids showed up at your rising U9 tryouts? |
I can't imagine a kid who has played travel soccer wanting to quite because of the birth year mandates. Has anyone seen this happening with their clubs or teams? Parents at my club are definitely interested in figuring out who is an '07, '08, '09 etc. to get a sense of which kids and carpool partners they might be grouped with for next year, but no one is freaking out about the change. And wanting to play with your friends seems like a rec league thing, and most rec leagues are staying with the current age groups. |
Do kids quit school when they get a new teacher and classmates every year? LOL |
YES. Parents and kids want teams to stay together in the age groups they are accustomed to, and not see the teams mixed up by the birth year mandate. |
I understand that parents or kids might want to stick with their prior year team, especially those who are new to travel soccer, but the question is whether anyone actually plans to leave their club or quit travel soccer because of the change? |
Don't think people are quitting because of the mandate implementation but there will be some adjustments. With the age groups merging their younger players with the older ones from the groups below, there will more than a few previous red and black players bumped by more skilled younger players. |
