+1 I live in a majority Black neighborhood and had a white guy canvasing door to door on my street encouraging people to support marriage equality and he didn't understand the negative reaction he was getting from my neighbors when he made the Civil Rights comparison. |
Ha! I'm PP typing with a broken hand on a phone. Not really worried about grammar. AND I own my own company. So this is not a SAHM issue as I stated in the first post. To use SAHM as an insult says a lot about you. Because it must be a SAHM if there is a run on sentence right? And dear God, if a woman decides to stay at home to raise her babies that is selfless and hardly a waste. Personally I admire them. |
I wouldn't understand the negative reaction either. Please explain it to me. It seems like both cases are people who are treated without dignity because of who they are. Sure, gays can "pass" as straight. Do you think that is the solution? What would you think if someone thought "passing" was the right solution for a light-skinned black person? |
So because they haven't had the exact same issues its not a civil rights issue? How is discrimination, not being allowed to marry, not being able to join certain groups, not being able to care for your loved one in the hospital not a civil rights issue. Gays have been killed just like blacks have. Matthew Shepherd comes to mind. |
Are little gay boys being beaten by grown men and thrown into a lake for say hi or hey baby in a store, Do gay people have gay water fountains and gay bathrooms? Can they be arrested for using the straight bathroom? Do gays have to give up their seats on the metro when a straight person comes? Are gays being lynched and hung from trees? -Not PP |
| Pretty sure there are still countries where being gay is punished by death. |
Actually they have been beaten, lynched and killed. And just because they haven't been denied at the lunch counter certainly doesn't mean they haven't been denied their civil rights. You are making the mistake that it has to be 100% apples to apples in order for it to be a civil rights violation. That's just stupid. |

Via Wikipedia:
"Between 1933 and 1945, an estimated 100,000 men were arrested as homosexuals, of whom some 50,000 were officially sentenced.[1] Most of these men served time in regular prisons, and an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 of those sentenced were incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps.[1] It is unclear how many of the 5,000 to 15,000 eventually perished in the camps, but leading scholar Rüdiger Lautmann believes that the death rate of homosexuals in concentration camps may have been as high as 60%. Homosexuals in the camps were treated in an unusually cruel manner by their captors." [...] "Homosexual concentration camp prisoners were not acknowledged as victims of Nazi persecution.[7] Reparations and state pensions available to other groups were refused to gay men, who were still classified as criminals — the Nazi anti-gay law was not repealed until 1994, although both East and West Germany liberalized their criminal laws against adult homosexuality in the late 1960s." |
Actually what I am saying is that it is not apples to apples so stop making the comparison. If you have issues, then talk about your gay issues. You don't need to bring any other group in this. If you can't understand that, then don't ask why your message would not be well received. |
And if you judge moms who work FT when they don't have to...how would you act on it??? This post is assuming that these are thoughts people keep to themselves. |

I forgot about the gay hospitals. It must be tough being gay and needing medical care. You can't go to the closest hospital, you have to go to the gay ones. Too bad if you are having a baby or dying in the parking lot- if it is straights only you are out of luck.
When you go for a job interview it must be so hard wearing that gay badge that everyone sees. Everyone knows you are gay so if there are biases, you are out of luck. Driving while gay, sheesh. You have it rough. It must suck to be gaycially profiled like that. |
What if the SAHM majored in history, would you still say that it's a shame that her parents paid for that useless degree? |
You said they were bringing it up as "civil rights". And that's exactly what it is! Just like it was for AA! So yes they can make the comparison. And mind you many of the atrocities DO compare even though they are not exactly the same! You are missing the point. |
So you are naive enough to think gays haven't been denied jobs or proper care!? You truly think they've been treated fairly by all the macho cops out there? Wow. |
