Trump today and MAGA still claiming Harris never worked at McDonald’s

Yes, Kamala, some rando on DC parenting site is demanding to see the papers. Show us your papers!

Maybe not, but I bet if you had to prove it under penalty of national embarrassement, you could do it.

I bet your mother still has the picture of you in the uniform.

There weren't cell phones with cameras then. My parents barely have any pictures of me from the 1970's or 80's and the idea of one in a work uniform...really? Maybe your family had cameras and film or whatever, but that isn't everyone's experience.

For the gazillionth time: there are no records for ANYONE working at McDonalds forty years ago. Besides, even if she did manage to find documentation it still wouldn't satisfy MAGA - they'd claim it was doctored, etc.

So go have your fever dream elsewhere.

Nor does it do her any good to jump every time Trump lies about her. The "it would be easy to show proof" is a false and galactically stupid argument.

This. She is masterful at not falling into the trap of letting him lead the narrative.

Au contraire, Harris is leading the narrative. Trump is so bent out of shape that she had a summer job at McDonald’s that he created an entire campaign stop to create the impression that he could do the same job she did. And of course he didn’t actually serve any customers.

There's no need for Harris to prove anything. As soon as she does, there will be another "thing" for her and/or the Dems to prove.

This is all bread and circuses (or rather freedom fries and circuses).

Clearly the base loves this. Owning the libs is > than $hitty economic policy, i.e. taxing freedom fries to make them cheaper. (Huh?!?!)

Fun fact: we are the 2nd largest importer of potatoes.

And this is pretty much how Trump’s mass deportations will go. Random nuts braying to see people’s papers.

+1. Someone, by now, would have stepped forward and said, "oh, yeah, we worked together summer of '81. We used to flip a coin to see who had to clean the ice machine."

The fact that this has not happened is telling.

??? I mean...no. Nobody is going to remember flipping a coin in 1981. I don't even remember the names of the restaurants I worked.

This is honestly so bizarre to me. I remember the places I worked, where they were located, some first names/faces of coworkers and various work stories etc. I’d recognize most of them if I ran into them somewhere, and certainly would remember if I had worked with the VP of the US - whose face is on tv all day and on the front page of the newspaper etc. I mean- c’mon that is crazy.

And the first time you told a soul was 5 years ago?

This is a stupid argument, but let's face it: Kamala's story about working at McDonald's simply does not stand up.

I had my first real job when I was 16, in 1985. If I had to prove now that I worked for 1.5 years at that little department store in North Carolina, I could do it.

I worked at Disneyland at a fast food restaurant in the early 90s in high school. Did about 15 hours per week for a year. I do not know the name of a single person I worked with. And nor would any of them remember me. I have no photos of me in one of those god awful uniforms. No W2s or taxes from when I was 16.

Only rich kid nepo-toads who never held a real job would be unfamiliar with this set of facts, or demand proof (that doesn't exist). If they had jobs, it was at their dad's Ford dealership or babysitting for family friends. Not real jobs where you had a mean supervisor, punched a time card, and/or got sexually harassed by older colleauges or customers.

That's the tell in this whole debacle - Trump and his country club circle have never worked a day in their lives at a tough minimum wage job.

It’s also people at the other end of the spectrum. People from small towns, rural areas, places where there aren’t a lot of opportunities or diversity. Areas where everyone knows everyone else, including all the McDonald’s employees, because they’ve lived there their whole life, and went to school with the McDonald’s employee’s parents or cousin, and go to church with the breakfast shift manager. Places like this might have one or two other fast food restaurants, so it’s not like there are a lot of other places for someone to work after school. It’s impossible to confuse if they worked at McDonald’s or another fast food restaurant because they only have McDonald’s. It’s very easy to remember who worked there 40 years ago, because that’s the only restaurant they could’ve worked at and that’s the only restaurant anyone could’ve eaten at in town, because that’s all there is. They know who worked with them after school because they went all the way K-12 with the same group of people. And if you grow up in a place like that, it’s hard to fathom not remembering who worked where, or how you can forget your coworkers’ names.

I grew up in a place like that, except we didn’t even have a McDonald’s until around 1990. (Before that, the closest McDonald’s was about 25-30 miles away.) That area is thick with MAGA folks now, but they’re quieter this go round. They’ll still vote for Trump, but they don’t seem quite as excited.

I grew up in a rural, sparsely-populated red township in PA and the idea of some rich New York billionaire showing up at a McDonalds and play-acting at "work" doesn't sit well with me.

This is what a lot of people seem to be missing. A lot of people have done these jobs for real — worked until their feet and backs hurt, sweat over grills and fryers, felt their hands grow slimy inside latex gloves, kept their cool as unreasonable customers bullied them, inhaled bleach as they mopped grimy floors, lay in bed at night knowing that they were going to do it all again in the morning.

Do these people feel “seen” because a silver-spoon nepo baby put on an apron and leaned out a window handing fries to pre-selected supporters? I did these sorts of low-wage jobs, and I don’t think for a minute that Trump “worked at McDonald’s.”

It’s just so weird. This whole conversation is so so weird.

Only business owners, crypto bros, and country club goers who love Trump and have education trusts to pay for their kids' private school think this was a "brilliant move" politically.

Anyone who has actually worked a low-wage fast food job knows that cosplaying "working class" is one of the phoniest and most-cringe things a politician can do.

Exactly.

Kamala will match Dukakis' EV achievements!

Then the last 40 years must have been really boring for you. Didn’t you do anything in your late teens or twenties? Most people have more interesting things to remember about being sixteen.

I imagine regular everyday people don't really want to be doxed, attacked, and made miserable because of their association with this or that polarizing figure. Who'd want to risk that?! Even if I were lucky enough to have worked with her, knowing how crazy MAGAs are, I'd keep it to myself.

But she worked there a few months. Not 18 months.

I am 63 now, and don't have memories of who I worked with on my short summer gigs in college. I can pull up a few faces, but not names.

I had every job you could dream of when I was a teenager in the 80s and my parents never took a picture, no.

Plus Harris wasn't living at home when she worked at McDonald's. She was in college. Without cell phones. Also, JFC, this is the new Obama birth certificate for you racist losers.

Very odd response, but happy to answer your question. Of course I did many things in my late teens and twenties, and I have many fun and interesting things to remember about being sixteen. I guess I'm totally missing your point. Wasn't your first job memorable? All I said is that I could prove that I worked there for 18 months or so if I had to.
