did you know that Biden is old?

Wow. The denial is amazing. You refused to notice the other people in the video - all major European leaders - effectively going "err.... what the heck" and the Italian PM quickly and gently going over to Biden and escorting him back to the group, just like a nicely mannered granddaughter does for her grandfather with dementia at a family Easter dinner. The contrast between Biden's behavior and movement and the rest of the leaders is glaringly obvious to all but the most hardcore partisans.

Anyone who's dealt with aged family members *knows exactly what is going on*. And it's nothing to do with partisanship, but honesty.

Watch the rest of the clip. It gets worse.

I look at this clip and grow envious of other countries with young, virile leaders.

Absolutely. He’s not even giving dignified elder statesmen. He’s giving dementia patient that family is still trying to take care of at home.

The entire incident is crazy, but when the Italian PM leads him back to the group of leaders it’s clear he’s not there there. He shuffles back slowly without looking or speaking to her, no smile, zero expression on his face. He doesn’t look at anyone in the group. He stands facing the camera with a slight grimace but overall blank look on his face and in his eyes. His teeth are actually bared. He slowly raises his sunglasses and puts them on. He looks like a worn out animatronic figure. He looks nothing like the people around him; no expression on his face and not even noticing what is really going on around him. For some reason he was drawn to the Soldier packing his chute, but is too physically frail in voice and body to catch that guy’s attention.

+1 And the Italian PM was clearly alert to the situation, and observing him with concern, and then positioned herself in a way that a teacher would guide a young child or one with special needs back to the group. It's all very sad.

She knew to watch him. The rest of the group was watching him. They slowly moved over to the area he was wandering and huddled around him for the picture, while he blankly and robotically put on his sunglasses and stared straight ahead. It’s like taking gramps out the nursing home for a trip to the park. Madness people are pretending he’s not majorly impaired.

Agreed. I voted for him last time because Trump is a lunatic. I'm not voting for Trump this time either obviously but Biden is clearly unwell. My dream scenario is that they both drop out.

So it matters the people they appoint and empower, but history tells us you are dead wrong that "all" that matters is the people they appoint and empower.

Wrong. Same story under the Obama administration. They hire the best and brightest young people and put them in positions where they can make the best decisions for the nation. The President is simply there to act as the public face of the administration.

Well the fact is that the economy is terrible, Title IX has been destroyed, and illegal immigration is totally out of control. So these "best and brightest" haven't exactly done a great job. It's a sick joke that we're stuck choosing between these two senile old men.

Unfortunately, without a strong alternate, tribalism will be the order of the day and one of these geezers will be elected President.

"Yeah, my guy is old, but the other guy is old and evil."

This. I'm not a Democrat but I hate what the GOP has become in recent years and I voted for Biden. My dad has dementia and is about the same age as Biden. I thought the plan was for Biden to defeat Trump and then step aside after one term and I think he should have stuck with that. This is just painful to watch.

I thought that as well. I thought I remember Biden promising he would only serve one term?

This never happened.

The economy isn't terrible. I mean even the Fed Chair and huge numbers of corporate CEO's disagree with you. That doesn't mean there isn't work that needs to be done to continue to stem inflation, but come on, it could have been a lot worse and certainly would be if the ideas Trump is floating are enacted.

The Title iX thing is so overblown. How do you propose accomodating the very small handful of trans kids who participate in athletics in high school? (and I mean until they are 18, they are only identifying, no one has had permanent transition surgery at that point)

Illegal immigration - if it were really an emergency, then the GOP would have supported their own bill to deal with it. This isn't a "blame Biden" issue.

But please, go on with your "both sides"

I saw the video. Biden was approaching to try to engage the skydiver who was kneeling down packing up the chute. It was awkward in that the skydiver didn't seem to be aware that Biden was approaching to talk to him and Biden just kind of hung there for a moment until he was pulled away. But that's all it shows.

Well maybe it's fine for CEOs but for regular families, it's tough right now.

Every choice involves trade-offs. Young girls shouldn't be disadvantaged because of someone else's mental illness. In some rougher sports it is actively dangerous for biological males to compete with girls. If someone wants to claim he's a girl now, then he can either stay on the boys' team or accept that this means sacrificing his sport.

I agree that killing that bill was idiotic. Today's GOP are clowns.

As discussed earlier, it was heavily implied, but you are correct that he didn't outright promise.

Yes, it shows how confused Biden was, especially when we see what the other leaders were doing. Would you have preferred that the PM of Italy leave him over there?

The point is he wasn't confused. He was trying to talk to someone who wasn't aware he was standing behind him. It happens. The bigger issue is the danger in basing our opinions of people on short video clips that have been edited to promote a certain narrative. I see this all the time on TikTok and other social media. Like every day. It's a problem for our whole society because we're getting our "news" from seconds-long video clips or sound bites that are very susceptible to being manipulated. Expect it to get worse in the lead-up to the election.

This only makes the whole thing much worse - it's a desperate attempt to cover up (weirdly) the simple reality that Biden is a very old man behaving like a very old man who is not entirely present some if not much of the time. A man in full possession of his faculties at a major G-7 gathering doesn't randomly wander off from the group of world leaders to give thumbs up to a solder who isn't even facing him! The Italian PM had to walk over to him and escort him back to the group! Like he was a child. Or an elderly and somewhat confused grandparent.

Between this, his weird body movement at the Normandy event, and his spaced out presence at the Juneteenth event, it's difficult to still pretend that these are all hit pieces taken out of context. Pragmatic people know the truth because we see it all the time with the elderly in our life who are in decline.

That’s exactly right. They are drawing more attention to his episode by trying to claim the paratrooper was edited out. The clips I have seen, the paratrooper is clearly visible, he’s kneeling on the ground wearing a maroon beret, packing his chute up. Biden is clearly focused on that one Soldier, he’s watching him when the Soldier in blue parachutes in from above. All the other G-7 leaders are watching that man parachute down in front of them, which actually takes some skill, to land right in front of their group. They are clapping and smiling as he lands, and Biden is turned away. He’s not clapping. He gestures with a thumbs up and the guy doesn’t even notice him. This man doesn’t even see or hear the president of the United States speaking to him. It’s bizarre. We all see the paratrooper; he never acknowledges Biden. If he had seen Biden gesturing to him or heard him speaking to him, he would have responded. He would have even saluted the president.

Please. I don't want Trump either, but quit trying to make excuses for what occurred here. It's not helpful at all.
