How long to establish a basic voting right?Allen allowed non-residents to vote so it really would be cosmic justice if a bunch of people got bussed in to sign the recall (something I’m sure he’s thought of for his primary).

You give away the game with the term "electable." Electable in DC means you have to comply with an ever growing list of check-boxes. DC voters will simply disqualify anyone who is essentially not a left-wing activist at this point. What is left to choose from is what ends up on the ballot. So yes, it is the voting habits of the residents that lead to them having to select from bad or worse.

Doesn't the Allen recall, with a cross section of donors undercut the point you are trying to make?

A lot of activists and CM are DSA, doubt the majority of the population of DC identifies that way. The pushback is real.

The only issue is that the vote would be a part of the November election by which point if Trump wins it’s moot b/c will federalize the city permanently. The only way to be sure that won’t happen is for Biden to disband the Council now and appoint a control board with the rules and members the Democrats set including return to self-governance in 4 budget cycles. This is what Clinton did in 1995 and it led to 2 decades of prosperity until these carpetbagger clowns. I’m not sure I want to wait and see — that’s an RBG bet I’m not willing to take.

I don’t want either of those options and that’s one reason I support the recall. DC deserves to govern itself, and I want people to know that when you govern us into a crime spiral, there are consequences.
