| What a great movie! It pulled off being campy, funny, a little moving, yet thoughtful, in a way that I don't think any other movie ever has. I went with my 21yo DD and we both loved it. If you played with Barbies as a kid all the little Easter eggs are so funny. |
| I’m sorry but this movie was just ok. I agree with the mediocre reviews. |
The usual people declaring war on Barbie...
Irony is dead |
It’s soooo bad, it’s garbage. |
"Ever"??? |
I agree. I posted previously, and I always secretly liked Barbie. It was bad, not to mention the small pox reference. What were they thinking? I also wanted to punch Ken in the face. |

This might sound cheesy to you but Barbie let me act out all my emotions, dreams, fears. I used imagination to create marvelously complex backstories for each doll like a soap opera. I always loved that Barbie could do anything. I never really thought about her weird plastic body but the messages to look a certain way came from many more places than that doll so I never have held that against her.
Anyway, I loved the movie and so did my 12 year old son.

You can’t be serious! LOL. |
Same deal with Ted Lasso. The show sucked but has a weird cult fanbase. Probably a lot of overlap with the Barbie fans. You't not allowed to not like Ted Lasso! |
You're allowed to not like whatever you want to not like. The problem is when you insist that everyone who does like it is lying or paid off or whatever - and the other problem is that you come into threads where people are enjoying themselves talking about a show or movie they enjoy and you just insist on responding to every comment with another paragraph about how much you hate the show and how bad it is, and blah blah blah. Yeah, you didn't like it! Barbie or Ted Lasso! This sort of millennial-style wholesome/emotional dramedy is not for you! That doesn't mean you need to center yourself in every conversation about them!! |
You got it exactly the wrong way, boo. It's more like you express even a mildly disapproving opinion of the "fave" show or movie and people act like you killed their dog or "just don't get it" .
Who is doing the centering? |
You're seeing that in here? I'm not seeing that at all. There's the conspiracy theorist who is upset that Mattel is trying to make a buck. It's ok if Disney or Dreamworks tries it, but Mattel is going a step too far! Who do they think they are trying to make money off their toys? And the weirdo with the secret squirrel handshake who likes to leave movies and provides paragraphs and paragraphs of what makes her tick. I see lots of posts of "it was just ok" with nobody even responding, much less to tell them they just don't get it. We must be reading different threads. |
The bolded is a great summation of what this move was about. I can't remember if it was a line in the movie or a review I listened to that said the same things you said and then concluded with: "and we put them all into a doll." As far as Barbie not having any significance in a girl's life - you sound like my really high minded law professor that took pride in telling us that he had never seen Star Wars when the prequels came out in the '90's. It doesn't make you look intellectual. Just out of touch. |
You. Still you. You don't get it - as you just explicitly said - but you're still making it all about you. |
It's an all time great movie! It functions on multiple levels and is extremely well acted, directed, designed, scored and shot. |
