Why is it unacceptable? You’ve made up your mind and will do what you’re going to do. What exactly do you or the teacher or the principal need to know on February 23? Is there some preparation that you need to do? Is there some difficult information that you need time to process?

Principals have their briefings on Thursdays. Is it possible that they will get their information about this dynamic situation then? My guess is yes, and it will be okay. You can calm down with your faux outrage.

Because some people don’t understand. My friend at work eager to get her kid out of a mask saw that email and was clueless. She talked about needing more masks and I said well, March one is around the corner. She didn’t know about the law, but saw the email and it didn’t make sense.

She had no idea. They did it this way on purpose to confuse people.

+1 if you don’t follow our state politics closely, you’d think you still have to mask after 3/1. It’s obnoxious that FCPS did this. The other districts managed to clearly communicate that there is an opt-out for student masks.

Yes, the pandemic has caused many unexpected changes. I will never go back to the office and I don’t love it. But I am not stamping my feet and quitting. Teachers need to stop being babies. Another unexpected result is the many young adults who are voting Republican because they see who is looking out for them. Hint. It isn’t the Democrats.

Does anyone think the sharp decline in new COVID cases in Fairfax County could provide an off-ramp, face saving rationale for FCPS to lift the mask mandate? I did a Google search on Fairfax County COVID and a graph came up that showed the 7 day case average coming down from ~2500 per day in mid January to 131 per day currently.

People leaving the profession they trained for and invested time, money, and energy into isn’t throwing a tantrum. It is a decision made after doing a hard cost/ benefit analysis of the job at hand. Last time I checked, indentured servitude wasn’t legal in the U.S., so folks can choose to leave a job if and when they want.

Moat of the young people I have met have been practically socialist: they don’t see a great future for themselves and believe old white Republicans have screwed their generation and savaged the country’s resources for self-interest. They’d like college to be more affordable, they’d like to not have to deal with an environmental apocalypse in their lifetimes, they’d like to have health care. It’s ludicrous that you think Republicans have a reputation as being “the party that looks out for you.”

Maybe. As a teacher, I imagine I will be required to wear a mask for the rest of the school year, so it’s not like I have anything to look forward to.

I was going to respond "not by March 1 but then checked the numbers. I see this:
Case Rate per 100k 50.89
I think that number needs to be at 49.9 or below for 7 days to be mask free per FCPS's previous communication. Looks like we will get don to moderate (if I am looking at the right number) but it won't have time to stay there for 7 days by March 1, obviously.

But encouraging to see we are close.

Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

What is your source for that dsta? It doesn't match VDH. And, no, we are not at 51 cases per weekly average per 100k people.

It''s just surreal that these arbitrary CDC guidelines have taken on such importance in some parts of the country. Generally no one pays any attention to various CDC guidelines and there is very little about COVID-19 that the CDC has gotten right over the entire pandemic.

Agree. We are anxiously watching to see if infection rates will fall by *tens* of cases in a county of more than a million people. And adhering to alert levels that were established before vaccines were available. So silly. And such a d*** measuring contest between Youngkin and the FCPS school board.
