Beef stew that had been left out overnight? I made awesome beef stew yesterday and asked DH to put it away before he went to bed.
Did that happen? Of course not. So pissed. Then he tried to convince me that it was still safe to eat. He's welcome to it but I'm not risking it. |
Yeah I would, I'm fancy like that.
no. i made homemade chicken noodle soup a couple weeks ago and forgot to put it away before bed and i tossed it. Met isn't something I mess around with. If there were no meat products I'd say go for it but once meat enters the realm all bets are off.
Yes, I would eat it (if I ate beef stew). If you're worried about food poisoning, then just reheat it thoroughly before you eat it.
Taste it. You will know if it went bad.
If it still smelled okay and it was thoroughly reheated, I'd eat it. Cooked meat isn't going to go bad as fast as raw meat would.
No, but I am squishy that way. My DH would though.
I posted this exact same question 2months ago (although i was the one who left it out). We ate it. I even gave it 2 and 3 year old. No negative effects, just heat it up well.
Yes, but you need to really reheat it - not just microwave, but stovetop at a boil for a few minutes (add some extra water or wine or broth to make sure there is enough liquid tor really boil if you need to).
How long was it out, how hot/warm was it, was it warm in the morning and was it covered? A large pot will take time to cool and the bacteria was all killed by the cooking process.
You people are so much braver than I am. I don't mess with my digestive system, but then I tend to throw up rather easily so maybe that's why I'm extra cautious.

1 in 6 people will get a good borne illness this year. Over 125,000 will be hospitalized and over 3000 will die.
Given peoples panic over Ebola, I often wonder why people are fine f-I g around with their food. Most food related illness does not happen the day of consumption - it can take up to 10 days for illness to appear, which makes it hard to pinpoint the source. I'm an "if it doubt, throw it out" person. Five dollars ( or ten dollars) of food is not worth the health risk to myself or family, to me. We've had no "stomach flu" (something usually due to food borne illness) or anything in this house for over 10 years. |
I routinely leave out chili over night. We've never had a problem. I wouldn't think twice about eating a stew the next day.
Like the PP, our family doesn't get stomach issues ever, but we would totally still eat it.
I thought that certain food bacteria can't be killed by reheating? Is that wrong?
