(This isn't in Expectant Moms because it's not really about baby naming)
I've never heard this until recently, and on both grown women and little girls. Julia is such a pretty name; Jules sounds rough, IMO. When did this start? |
| Just a guess - maybe with the movie, “My Best Friend’s Wedding?" |
| Party of 5? Mid 90s |
| A million years ago??? That was my great aunts nickname. Also Demi moores characters nn in st Elmo's fire. |
OP here, I haven't seen it. Has the whole world seen it or something? |
When did they call her Jules? It was always Julia. |
It was a very popular movie in the late 90’s. Really a “chick flick” but lots of guys secretly liked it as well. Well worth watching if you haven’t seen it. |
I thought of St. Elmo's Fire, too! I love that nickname. Alas, all my Julie and Julia friends go by their full names. If I have a daughter she may well be Julia nn Jules. |
I've heard of it, especially when it was out. I just didn't see it. |
If you like romantic comedies, this is a good one IMO. I am not a big movie-watcher, but I have seen this one twice. |
| I knew at least one Julia who was nicknamed Jules in the mid-80s. |
| Every Julia - Julian type name can and many do, go by Jules. |
I heard Julius Caesar went by Jules among friends. |
Me, too. Seriously, OP, where have you been? |
| My half-sister, Julia, is almost 60. She has always used Julie, as most Julias did prior to the 1990s. And within our family, about half of us call her Julie and half call her Jules, which is about as obvious a nickname for Julia/Julie as one could create. |
