When did Jules become a nickname for Julia?

I heard Julius Caesar went by Jules among friends.

Heh

I like your sense of humor. I've never heard of a Julia called "Jules".

I love Jules.

And Julia and Julian. All pretty names.

My Julia's nickname is Boo-berry.

I'm a Julie. My mom and a few very close friends have always called me Jules. Mostly in the "Hi Jules" context. But they always call me Julie when talking about me. I actually never gave much thought to it until this thread. My husband calls me Jul but again, have never thought about that either. It just seems completely normal after all of these years.

+1. I bet you can say that with a straight face.

my 4-yr old calls our baby "Jules" occasionally (and hasn't seen the movies). He also makes Julia two syllables (Jew-ya) which I don't really like.

This is because she doesn't want to be called Jules.

Um, no. It's because Jules is an informal nickname for her.

We call our Juliet, Jules, all the time. I don't know how or why, but I started it. My DH commented early on that he might not have named her that had he known, but now he calls her that occasionally. NBD.
