| I thought I remember that these were available during the full-day Monday kindergarten discussion, but I can't seem to find them anymore. Does anyone know where I can locate them (even if in draft form)? We are doing some long-range vacation planning for a trip that will take a couple weeks, so I want to get a sense of the winter holiday break. Thanks in advance! |
| Given that they have set the winter break to 2 weeks for the past couple of years, I'd say you have a good chance of the break being Dec. 19- Jan. 3. But, the school board has not set the actual calendar for next year yet. |

I think I read that FCPS will always have a 2 week winter break from now on, but I cannot remember where I saw that. |

Ryan McIlveen says there will be a two-week winter break every year - http://www.fcps.edu/schlbd/members/newsletters/archive/at-large-mcelveen/2014/mcelveen-2014-07.html
Of course, that doesn't mean it couldn't be changed. But if I were a betting person, I'd bet that school would start back on Monday, Jan. 4 and plan to be off the two weeks before that. That would make Friday 12/18/15 the last day of classes before winter break. |
| Labor Day is Sept 7 this year. Does that mean the FC school year will start on Sept 8? |
Yes, that is the current consensus. Nothing official from FCPS yet, though. |
| Seems like surrounding counties are starting August 31 -LCPS and PWCS for example. I would be surprised if FCPS didn't follow suit. |
Both of those counties have waivers to start before Labor Day. Fairfax does not. It has requested the waiver, but it will be denied if it has not already been. While there is a "formula", the decision is largely political and will never happen. |
| I have the draft calendar at school. I can check it this morning. |
| I do know that in draft form, the first student day will be September 8 and the last day June 24. The last teacher day June 27. |
| Actually, I do have a copy here at home. Winter break would be 2 hour early release on 12/18. Students return 1/4. Again, this is only a draft. |
OMG, if this is true, I think I love you. So the 2 week Winter Break is here to stay?? I am a teacher BTW. |
That's what they say. I'm looking at the calendar that was presented last week. Still, this is a draft calendar at this point. |
|
I'm in LCPS. Since Christmas will be on a Saturday in 2016 (year after this) I would be really surprised if they still gave two weeks that year (and the next couple years after.)
Growing up we had 1.5 week breaks, unless Christmas fell on a Thursday. If it fell earlier in the week, we went back January 2. If it fell later in the week, we went Monday/Tue the week of Christmas. |
I am the FCPS teacher above and I agree with you. That's why if this holds for next year (the 2 week break), I think it is here to stay which is really, really nice! |
