Fairfax County 2015-16 calendar?

I love the two week winter break. We love getting out of Nova and going somewhere warm.

I just counted the weeks for summer 2016 with an end date of Juen 24. It would be 10 weeks which is pretty standard for each summer. This summer we do get an extra week because Labor Day 2015 is so late and we started early this school year (Sept. 2).

So FCPS start date would be Sept 8?

Just curious how you know the draft calendar. Have you seen the draft?

If someone who has the draft could let me know the proposed dates for Thanksgiving Break, I'd be enormously grateful. We are discussing an overseas trip during that time right now and trying to get an idea whether it would even be feasible with the school schedule.

I don't have the draft calendar, but FCPS always does a 2 hour early release on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then has off Thursday-Sunday.

I am the PP. I haven't seen the calendar, but another PP who said she was a principal has. It's on page 1 of this thread.

Two weeks winter break is very important for families from other countries who like to travel to their home countries over Christmas.

07:43 here.

The draft calendar I have was passed out at the January STAC meeting.

Why are people shocked by the 2 week winter break. The county said this would be the norm after they got rid of early release Mondays.

This was my thought. I remember it was part of the deal. Why do even the teachers seem surprised?

Here to stay...

Built in snow days so the school year won't be extended (along with losing the option to get those days back if we don't use them)
2 week winter break
Early release before holidays and at the end of each quarter
And last but not least, getting out of school ridiculously late each year.

I am a teacher and this was never relayed to us at my school so I was surprised. Yes, I realize it was put out in a memo from Ryan Mcelveen and probably elsewhere, but I don't remember seeing it. Especially since so many of those changes came at the end of last year/in the summer.

Both of those counties have waivers to start before Labor Day. Fairfax does not. It has requested the waiver, but it will be denied if it has not already been. While there is a "formula", the decision is largely political and will never happen.

Why would it be denied for us and not them? I would love to start 8/31 and get out the 17th instead of the 24th. It's ridiculous. That's almost July (AGAIN, just like this year - which is what they were trying to avoid, no?).
