Given the rankings, it sounds like Miami University would want to be confused with University of Miami. |
IMO they're both great schools. Miami U gets a pretty solid look from kids in this area. |
Not really. Miami of Ohio is well known to be an excellent school. Not all that much difference in 30 spots. |
They're very different schools. It's remarkable how many adults confuse the two. |
Miami U was my "safety school" and I didn't get in. ![]() |
I've never heard anyone call Miami of Ohio anything other than Miami of Ohio IRL. Makes it hard to confuse that way. |
I have a DS at UM. Of the people who ask, about 49% of the time, people look at me with pause (wondering which school it is and I have to say "Florida") and about 49% say "in Ohio?" About 2% say "Go Canes!" I totally gave up and now say "University of Miami. Florida." Maybe I just move in ignorant circles.

Maybe it's that more people in this area are familiar with Miami of Ohio? Or when you say Miami of Ohio, there's no doubt which school it is but when you say University of Miami, there's still a question? |
Both excellent schools. Rankings don't mean anything... Schools know how rankings are calculated so they manipulate big time. I think Miami (OH) is more of a regional school and UMiami is more national if that makes difference. |
Funny how pps zone in on rankings, even when they say rankings don't matter. They're both good schools. Period. My guess, based on anecdotal evidence, is that there is not a lot of overlap in the application pool. |
go canes! |
It's all about the []_[]! |
You could say "the Marco Rubio one, not the Paul Ryan one." |
Uh, I'll have to think about that one. . . . |
