PSA: Miami University/University of Miami

The schools are similar in name only. If the names confuse you, college should be out of the question.

If you are considering these schools, college should be out of the question.

located in Oxford, Ohio (35 miles from Cincinnati)
Public, just over 15,000 undergrads
about $41,000 (tuition, room, board) for OOS students
67% acceptance rate
USNWR rank: 76
personal observation: beautiful campus, happy student population

University of Miami
located in Coral Gables, Florida (8 miles from Miami)
Private, just over 10,000 undergrads
about $57,000 (tuition, room, board)
39% acceptance rate
USNWR rank: 48
personal observation: beautiful campus, happy student population

Another fact:
UM reports 43% white students
MU reports 82% white students.

Both good schools, IMO but don't see the same kid applying to both. BTW, the kids know the difference between the schools, it's the parents who are remarkably clueless.

Who'd send their child to a school that was more than 80% white?

Just a refresher.

About 2% say "Go Canes!" I totally gave up and now say "University of Miami. Florida." Maybe I just move in ignorant circles.

You could say "the Marco Rubio one, not the Paul Ryan one."

Only if you want to out yourself as a complete moron. If Paul Ryan ever wins an election in Ohio we are all well and truly fucked.

Or, you'll look knowledgable. Lots of people know 2 Miami (Ohio) alums: Paul Ryan and Big Ben. And lot know that Marco Rubio represents Florida.

I feel like you have some agenda but I can't figure out what it is.

I graduated from Univ of Miami almost 20 years ago. Most students I knew were from rich families. If you didn't drive at least a BMW, you weren't even allowed to park in front of frat houses.

But the campus was gorgeous, I loved the city, and it's a great school. Was very different than my freshman year at a public school. Private feels soooo different.

I don't know. People don't confuse Michigan with Michigan State or Florida with Florida State so why can't people decipher Miami University from University of Miami once and for all?
