There is no legal obligation to call the cops or report criminal activity.

Misprision of a felony. People get charged with this all the time in federal court.

I don't understand why they let DW's posse go. They were clearly aware that he was fleeing and arguably had the fruit of the crime with them (cash and money orders). Why not charge them with helping his flight and then squeeze them hard for further info (threatening even more serious charges)? It's very possible that one or more of them were involved with the home invasion and murder, given that they seemed very active in helping him flee with some of the loot.

Maybe they were so ticked that "all" they got from the S family was 40k that now they were going to go rob someone else and this time steal a bunch of their things as well in case they didn't have cash on hand, since the group had recently learned that even rich people don't typically keep cash on hand

I think they needed a car and there is a truck rental close to the Motel they had checked in to. It was convenient and no one will be looking for a box truck right.

Could be but driving a box truck seems pretty conspicuous

It doesn't say the red car was missing. In fact, you could see it sitting in the garage in the post fire news reports.

what do you mean 'it doesn't say the red car was missing'? if by "it" you mean the article posted above then yes, "it" does say the red car was missing. that quote above is directly from the article.

it does say the red car was missing in that article. however, i think this is a mistake. because, as the PP says, you can see a red car in the garage in news reports

There were two red cars. One could still be in the garage. I read the charging documents and it is not clear if the Mosler is missing or not. Obviously there was room for one or two cars in the garage, plus the Audi and Range Rover which are clearly visible from the driveway. I think the not being clear about the other missing car is part of law enforcement strategy to play close to vest.

Nah - the red audi is visible in post-crime photos next to the white range rover.

The charging documents said that the money was placed in a red sports car. I assume that was the red Mosler. The charging documents describe the police officer looking in the car and not seeing any money. So, the red sports car in which the money was placed is not missing. Another poster here has mentioned seeing a red Audi in photos. If that poster is correct, then the red Audi is also not missing. That leaves two possibilities: 1) the police described the Audi as a "sports car" and the Mosler wasn't the car in which the money was placed; or 2) there is a third red car that is missing. I would be shocked if the Mosler is missing and nobody has mentioned it because that is a very visible and unique car.

OR option (3) - the author of the article made a mistake. Read too hastily the fact that the cops looked in the garage for a red bag, a manila envelope, and cash and found nothing.

Yes, I thought of that after I posted and I think option (3) is the most likely.

Was the box truck for Wint to collect his stuff and move? Could he "camp" in the truck?

I said this a few pages ago! I just told myself I need to stop reading this thread.

Maybe to move a stolen red car

--> I feel EXACTLY the same way.

Me too.

Is it just me or does it seem like all the timelines are off? For instance they say they found they blue Porsche burning just after 5pm and the in video of the car in flames it is pitch dark out. It doesn't get dark around here until after 8pm ? so what gives with these times? The maid was supposed to leave at 3pm but was there at 6pm when they say this all started.

Well there you go--they were all on their way to do work on the stolen car. The box truck was some sort of mobile garage vehicle. Wonder where Demon Whit and cohorts stashed the car? BTW, I think whomever burned up the Porche did so because it was too advanced of a ride--too many gears.
