Are our kids going to be distracted? Does this make sense? Will ithelp their education. We parents need to consider this issue! See this article. Please respond to this question in the comment section! http://woottonnews.com/should-students-be-permitted-to-access-wi-fi/ |
| We should get really hysterical about basic technology that our kids are growing up surrounded by and post threads to DCUM! |
| Miisses the point. Rules should govern device usage, regardless of how it connects to the internet -- Wi-Fi, cellular data, Ethernet cable, etc. For example, don't allow during class unless authorized by teacher. OK before, after classes, and during lunch. Something like that. |

I already have a problem with my daughtr spending too much time on her phone. Why are they opening up this door in school. She needs to read with out being distracted by the texting.
I am pretty sure teachers cannot handle this, they already cant handle classes! now to have the devices on ALL theTIME |

Parents are blindly thinking technology is great without considering appropriate limits.
Same goes with schools. Rushing out and buying tech without really thinking thoughtfully about how to integrate it into the class. I think it is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! people are blind, totally addicted. |
| Allowing them to use WiFi in school doesn't change a thing for kids. Kids can already access internet on their cellphones if they have a data plan. |
|
Phones have no place in schools. It is a big distraction.
Plus the wifi might cause cancer down the road. We are rolling down a hill without looking. |
| Howard COunty already allows smart phone use in class. |

This is 2014. lol...
Someone keep a copy of this convo so people can read and laugh in 10 years. |
And across the river in Fairfax County, there's a "Bring Your Own Device" to school program that's been in place for years. |
Yep |
| When electricity emerged as a utility it went to businesses first, residences a year later. It was kept out of schools for ten years out of concern for the adverse effect it might have on children. |

Yup. This is how it works at Blair. |
Did you ever think that it's just not a phone? It's a device that happens to have a phone. Maybe instead of the kids, we just keep some parents away from technology. God forbid they do something dangerous with it and keep us "rolling down the hill." |
