I noticed there are nothing on their calendar recognizing, let alone altering the schedule for it.
If you are a Jewish family, why on earth would you send your kid there? And by refusing to even acknowledge Rosh Hashanah, what does it say about Landon's ability to recognize/respect diversity? |
Oops. Meant "Why DOESN'T Landon recognize Rosh Hashanah" |
Are you just looking for something to get upset about? Studying school calendars in the hopes of getting offended?
|
Not a big enough Jewish population? I grew up in VA and knew nothing about high holy days. If I'd grown up in MoCo, where I currently live, I believe I would have.
It's a numbers game, not a slight I would guess. |
No. There was a thread about Jewish families and private schools in this area.
Amazed that Landon shows zero respect for Jewish holidays, it seems. |
Just because they don't have it off doesn't mean they don't respect the religion or its holidays. I'm SURE students get an excused absence. |
Jews don't play lacrosse. Duh. |
They get an "excused" absence, however all of my DS' teachers still assigned homework. My other DS at another private had NO homework because of the holidays. I have to say we were a bit surprised...... |
There are at least a couple strong Jewish schools in the area hat accommodate work schedules in accordance with the most observant of students. If this is important to you, then look into those. |
Ever heard of Rob Pannell? In terms of current students, Landon has a 9th grader who just committed to Johns Hopkins whom I believe is Jewish. |
You just "noticed" something on the web calendar of a school that you're not affiliated with? You seem obsessed with Landon, and with doing anything you can to badmouth the school. Your behavior says so much more about you than it does about Landon. |
I am Jewish and you are embarrassing us. The whole world doesn't have to stop for our schedule to prove they are respecting Judaism. DC #1 went to a school that had a small Jewish population and did not give the day off. So what, DC took the day off to attend services and all the teachers were helpful and understood. DC #2 goes to a school with a fair number of Jewish students and gives the day off -- otherwise a lot of students would be absent. |
+1 |
I was being sarcastic. I'm not affiliated with Landon, but the world doesn't revolve around my Jewishness. Or anyone else's religious status. Get over it. |
No. There is a thread entitled, "What is it like to be Jewish at VA/DC Independent HS?", so I looked up Landon's calendar. Sorry you are embarrassed (as you should be) that Landon doesn't have any recognition of the Jewish community. |
