I think it may be a generational thing but most people my age don’t view Kate as aspirational. She’s a beautiful woman but her life seems really boring and unfulfilling. She’s kinda like living Melania Trump’s life with two more kids.

Transactional, stupid, and uninvolved is how I see both Melania and Kate. Great they're involved with their kids but they use them to shield them from any actual responsibilities in their respective positions. The fact that Kate was known for three things in 10 years - wigs, skin, and coatdresses - says its all. No accomplishments whatsoever.

Now she's aging and you can see the distress on her face because what does she have now? You can't use kids in boarding schools as an excuse.

Hell, come to think of it I've seen William doing more daddy daycare crap than Kate but maybe the press just don't sell shots of her? Its so weird.

Well I think of her efforts to shine light on early childhood development/the first 5 years of a child’s life. She doesn’t need to win Nobel prizes or have notBke accomplishments.

Maybe she just wants to raise her kids and patronize things she cares about and settle in for the long haul. What, they’ve been married for ten years? She’s got another 50 in the spotlight. I don’t run marathons but isn’t it a bad idea to sprint the first few miles?

Sprint? The girl's got training wheels on still and she's been after/living with William since she was 19.

Ok so what are you actually looking for from her? UN floor speeches? Full time job? Fire the nanny?

I just don’t get what standard she is being held to.

I think people are reacting to the fact that she hasn't stood out or excelled or made her mark in any real way. The Queen's engagements all seem pretty dull and formal, but she does so many of them. She stands out for her incredible work ethic and sense of duty.

Diana stood out for her ability to connect with people. She didn't cover her vulnerability and instead drew people to her as something they shared.

Meghan stood out for glamour, her intelligence/education, and as a biracial woman, her demographic modernity.

Kate's only real commitment has been to early childhood development. That's important, of course, but gosh, people have been doing that for decades. She's not breaking any new ground, so she doesn't get the kind of credit that Diana got for hugging people with AIDS or speaking out against landmines.

In short, her efforts are all fine but not special, so while people may think she's doing what she is supposed to do, they're not invested enough to really adore or defend her.

She is risk averse and keeps her head down and avoids controversy, so she doesn't inspire strong feelings one way or the other.

Even within her early childhood focus she hasn't done anything. She goes to engagements and says (direct quote) 'baby brains become adult brains'. Well thank you Dr. Einstein. There's that and a literal 3-question survey. That's it.

Kate came up with that all on her own, did she??

What has Kate done for early childhood development? I hear that getting thrown around a lot, but have no idea what she's done in that area.

PP you're responding to, and exactly. I have no idea.

Looking at those two videos, I can't imagine Queen Elizabeth ever articulating anything even close to that.

I mean...you said it not me. Its not like its hard. Future Queens and current ones have been doing this since well before turning 40.

Then again the European counterparts to Kate aren't dumb as a rock.

Great videos!

I actually laughed at the idea of Kate giving similarly intelligent interviews. 🤣🤣

Wow. The contrast is really remarkable, and both women are speaking in their non-native language.

The BRF has not been known for its intelligence, though. Queen Elizabeth reputedly always lamented her lack of knowledge/education. Diana had many wonderful qualities but was not particularly brainy.

I assume Kate is pretty smart. Her parents are self-made so not dumb, and she went to good schools. She doesn't seem to be intellectually engaged, though.

Diana was pretty smart; she was just limited by the family role of the “thick one” that she had and the fact that educational expectations for women at that time weren’t high.

DP but small correction, Crown Princess Mary is actually Australian, so English is her first language. That said, she learned Danish when she married the prince and moved to Denmark as an adult, which is remarkable. She's given several speeches in Danish, too, which you can find easily. Can't ever imagine Kate doing something like that. She's not a great speaker in English, let alone learning and speaking fluently in a different language.

Whenever I see Kate with any other of the Queens/Crown Princesses I just have to laugh. She’s the epitome of this meme.

In your hurry to bash Kate you neglected to mention that Maxima is the counterpart of QEII and Mary is the equivalent of Camilla.

Sigh. Maxima and Mary were doing excellent speeches and working with global organizations long before they took up their new positions. In fact, here's a secret - the Countess of Wessex (of the British Royal Family) also regularly briefs the U.N. and she's about 3 rungs lower than Kate on the totem pole.

Stop excusing the lazy sloth.

I don't think that makes much difference. The point is that they have a command of knowledge that Kate has never come close to displaying. Nothing she's ever said about childhood development has been particularly insightful or erudite. We saw that when she did that event Jill Biden.

Mary and Maxima are both over 50, BTW, and look fantastic.

Nothing even indicates she's researched it beyond maybe reading a parenting book and having kids. And her kids have one of those super traditional royal nannies, so even her own parenting is adjacent to a pretty rigid philosophy. Her "childhood development" talks are at the level of a pageant contestant talking about "world peace."

I think Kate is bright but uninterested in intellectual things or current events which is unfortunate for the future queen. She had a great upbringing and did well enough to get into St. Andrews. But then did the rich girl looking for an MRS history of art major, was an accessories buyer for a few years but really just partied in the rich set of 20 somethings in London and successfully pursued William. She’s a party girl who likes fashion and rich lady things. She never really worked, sure had a fun job for the aesthetics of it, but meh.

Meh. There is a difference between criticism and hate. I've been criticizing her makeup, but I don't hate her. I even like her a bit. (Mostly I feel sorry for her, because my opinion of William is pretty low, and all the money in the world wouldn't make up for the lifestyle she's leading.) There have been plenty of times in the past where she's looked exquisite. (Prince Phillip's funeral stands out, if I'm not mistaken.) I just wish she'd update her makeup.

I'll add that I think Kate is a sacrificial lamb and agree with an earlier poster that it's her family who has really benefited from her marriage. Pippa, her brother, and her parents have pretty great lives, courtesy of the position Kate married into.

But Kate lives with insane scrutiny, a temperamental husband who doesn't always seem to cherish her, dysfunctional in-laws, a work schedule that may be fairly light but consists of tedious meet and greets, little speeches, etc. I would lose my mind. She's probably happy enough with the bargain she made, but don't assume many other people want what she has. Both William and Harry were known to have a hard time dating women who wanted any part of that lifestyle. It is not for the faint of heart.

PP, does Kate have everything YOU wish for? There's not anything wrong with that-- different strokes-- I'm just curious, though.

I agree with this. Her mom said something around the time of their wedding about having thought Pippa would be the one in her place since she has more of the personality for it (and low key said she was prettier and more charming) but knew that "they" would get there, implying both of those girls were told to go out and bring home a big fish.

The second part is true too. A big deal was made about William marrying a commoner, but I think he basically had to. The women running in his aristocratic circles had the option to marry rich and live a life free from public scrutiny. Why would they want this? They didn't.

The mom is wrong Pippa is definitely not prettier. She might be more charming, but not prettier.

+1. Pippa prettier? NFW. Kate was gorgeous in her prime (and it’s sad that this 39yo is past her prime! She should still be in it). Pippa was never all that pretty, even in Kate’s wedding. I know nothing about their personalities but it sounds like Pippa is more outgoing

Sprint? The girl's got training wheels on still and she's been after/living with William since she was 19.

Ok so what are you actually looking for from her? UN floor speeches? Full time job? Fire the nanny?

I just don’t get what standard she is being held to.

When do you think she grew up? It may have been educational expectations for her were not that high, but societal expections were certainly higher in the late 60’s and 70’s.

It’s not a contest. Kate doesn’t have to live up to your imaginary standards.
