Here’s a PSA for everyone triggered by Meghan’s experience with racism.

Racism manifests itself in different ways in different environments. The most telling thing is that even all the wealth and privilege in the world cannot protect you from it.

Oprah is one of the wealthiest women in the world. Yet, even she was kicked out of a high end store in Paris because of her skin color.

Meghan Markle is literally a princess and she still had to deal with racist press. The most egregious was the BBC comparing her newborn to a monkey.

These experiences are relevant because success, wealth and power are often considered the solution to fighting racism. This underscores the need for greater societal change.

Thank god you guys are fighting for poor Oprah’s rights. You’re real difference makers.

Let me spell it out for you:

Oprah was the richest person in the entire city of Paris and she was kicked out of a store for being black. When she spoke out it shone a light on the treatment of black people in Paris. There are often many excuses for racist behavior and excluding black people from white spaces. Oprah’s experience destroys each and every one of those “plausible” justifications.

I’m happy that she was able to draw attention to widespread discrimination in the same way I’m happy Meghan was able to call out the British press for racism. They both used their position and power to force attention on racist practices. Their privilege and power means they cannot be ignored.

Sadly, no one can prevent all discrimination. I’m a woman, so I understand that I will be sexually harassed when I leave my house. But I don’t whine about it constantly. What would be the point?

NP.

So...

Harvey Winestein should be free? All stars and victims be damned?

“Wining” creates awareness you selfish dolt. Maybe you’d feel different if your harassment turned to rape?

You’re an idiot. Read what I said again, in context and response to what YOU wrote about dismissing sexual harassment/discrimination/racism.

Stop acting like sexual harassment is no big deal. It promotes rape. Like racism promotes discrimination and oppression. That is the point. Don’t be dismissive of either. “Whining” about discrimination or sexual hatasssment may not be something you do since “it happens” but your attitude of complacency paves the road to greater travesty for everyone.

This is a great example of gaslighting:

PP says she expects to be sexually harassed because she’s a woman and there’s no point in complaining about it.

Someone else correctly points out that sexual harassment often leads to rape snd we should all speak up against it.

PP turns it around that anyone fighting sexual harassment wants her to be raped and is the true misogynist. Good trolling!!! Gaslighting at its finest. Well done.

I want the kind of racism that Oprah and Meghan have. They are rich beyond belief and have time to complain behind their castle walls!

Spoken like someone who has never experienced racism.

Not really. I went to a majority black public school where I lettered in four sports. Lots of experience with discrimination based on race.

What’s yours? Sounds like you’re an expert!

The fact that you think that playing a sport is somehow related to blackness....

Lol. We all know you only dare look at black people while you’re dialing 911 from your crappy suburban home.

Honey, I am black. I just take issue with people minimizing other people’s experience of racism because their life isn’t a living horror. Just because you have a good life or are wealthy doesn’t mean that you can’t be negatively impacted by racism. And more importantly for you if you dislike someone for their race it’s not ok because they are wealthy.

And by the way, this is really going to blow your mind, but I’m not good at sports.

“Maybe you’d feel different if your harassment turned to rape.” This is an entertainment forum. There’s really no need to speculate as to whether or when posters will be raped.

No, it's because they're disingenuous. There is racism in England. There is racism in the BRF. That's not why H&M fled to California. So when they point to racism, it is a deflection. It's unserious. They're unserious. Racism is a serious topic but they aren't.

So because they are phony best to ignore the whole serious subject?

I’m sorry that you view being vocal about sexually harassment as “whining”. It’s not. It’s a violation of your civil rights.

Maybe if you saw more value in your own civil rights you would be able to value the rights of others.

But they’ve cut extremely lucrative deals since then. Why would he still need to mooch off Pop?

I agree. When you’re an adult and enjoy so much wealth and privilege, why would you still whine about pops not giving you money?

I did not take it as a whine, but a simple statement of fact. He is also letting those like yourself understand that the reason he is making such lucrative deals is because he no longer have the financial support of the crown and must make money, by any means necessary to take care of his family.

Only a white person who has never experienced racism would say some stupid shit like this. Would you say the same thing about a rich Jewish person who ihas to deal with anti-semitism all the time. Or a rich, gay man who is subjected to homophobic altercations, incidences, and slurs on a regular. Black people are the only people in this country who are constantly told to be appreciative that they are not living and thriving in the slums.
