I think when you have a talented player, even though she is overmatched because she is playing up too many years, you might feel obligated to play her to keep mom happy, to keep the player getting game experience, and so on. She is talented and should play, but she can't keep up with freshman in high school. It's been proven over and over, game after game

Somehow this completely overmatched player has the 2nd most goals on the team. That's where you lost me. How did that happen? Pure luck?

Kind of. It wasn't like she took on 3 or 4 players and then took some driven shot. Last year, on the 04 team, the most goals were by one of the least skilled players on the team. She had speed, passion, and all, but she was by no means the technical guru.

So your at age DD is not starting over a non-skilled 2 year play up who starts every game and has the 2nd most goals on the team due to pure luck? Is that the gist of it? Ok - I get your frustration.

This is purely mean! But I also had to laugh.

(Honestly me too, and it's my kid he's talking about I'm confident enough in her skills he can't get under my skin with such a cheap shot. )

It's not a cheap shot at your kid. I have no dog in the fight. But the other poster clearly has both selection bias and confirmation bias. While I feel for his situation, it's purely mean of him to keep complaining about your kid publicly. So I felt it was a bit deserved to call him out.

You couldn't be more off target. Go for it though. My DD's skills don't depend on your posts. She has the same biases. She doesn't enjoy being on the field with a player that can't keep up. She doesn't get a full training experience because of a player that can't keep up. Those are real problems. Go on though! Give it your best efforts. Laughter is so freeing!

Sure. Just realize that everything you are bring up is subjective. The objective data is that this play up kid is being selected to start. She is scoring goals. I have not seen a game, maybe it's terribly sloppy. But those are the facts. Her DA record shows she even played up another year one game and scored a goal. So THAT is why you look like you are whining. Based on those facts.

Instead, I suggest you focus on your own DD and helping her get better. No situation is ideal. But don't point the finger at another kid. It's not cool.

Several posters have expressed concern and frustration in several ways, cool and not cool. Where there is smoke, there is fire. It will be interesting to see if unhappy parents leave, if MU changes policy, or if the player leaves. Last year mom tried FCV and McLean (per Twitter). Perhaps she will again. All posts though have come as a reaction to the hakuna mata approach.

Mom will stay if MU allows the 2 year up gig. No way this player will join the winless 06 MU team. Otherwise she will go to FCV. McLean 06 team is probably almost as bad as the MU 06 team so I doubt we will see her there. And there is no chance she will play at age. TBH she is good enough to play up anywhere. If I were her I would play 06 FCV just so my DD isn't playing with girls so much older.

Then she should go. The club shouldn't let mom set the agenda, and one player shouldn't control the development of an entire team. The other very likely outcome is that a few key players will leave. Without them to carry the team, she may play up two years again another round, but it will be a very different experience.

Well, threatening to leave is also setting an agenda. Frankly, you don't get to pick your roster. You can certainly vote with your feet but that can be done without all the forum bluster and drama.

I don't think anyone will leave to make a threat. They will leave to get a better training environment and game experience.

Then, if that is the case why all the whining here about it? Just leave for that better environment. It is always fair to say something else is better for my kid without having to run the place you left down. People change jobs all the time. Sometimes it is just the right time for you and your kid. There is no reason to make life for the kids who choose to stay that much more difficult by crapping on them on your way out.

I had to look up the staff involved.. If you're trying to build a new club as Director/Coach, how do you not address the elephant in the room with players and parents that is this thread. Without addressing this, there is no way the situation gets better before it gets worse. Is he even addressing this or just ignoring it?? Does Metro even have that time? No wonder other clubs are quick to bash Metro United.

The whining is being done by the online campaign brigade. Not everyone is singing hakuna mata. That's the facts. You are whining because not everyone thinks this is a good experience.

If your kid is sitting behind a 3 year playup your problem is not the club.

And again, if the team just doesn't fit your needs go and find another team. People do that every year without stating their reasons online. You don't need to save anyone with the heads up regarding your reasons. Just find a better spot for your kid, that is your only real obligation. If people feel the same way then they will do what is in their best interest too.

You might think you will feel better about creating some Spartacus moment on a forum but people are gonna do what is best for themselves first.

And if it were just subs upset, that too would be telling. It's starters. It's a lot of families. You can deny, belittle, attack, and make fun of all day long. That only proves how invested you are in the outcome.

They are your friends. You came to the club with them. You hang out on the sidelines together. But don't overestimate how far that goes. They are looking out for their best interests too. The bottom line is you are not in charge. You don't get to pick the team, who starts or how many minutes they get. All you can do is decide what is best for you.

I agree with everything you said, and it changes nothing about anything I said. They will, and they should. Do not expect the club to look out for you. Any club that sets one player's development ahead of an entire team is not owed anything.

there are issues at other age groups, too. not about play-ups, but about overall environment and player results, or lack of them.... Much discussion just about 05/06 here when it's not all roses at 01-04 either. How many of those 19s and 17s are committed?

Yeah no... that's a big stretch. While DCUM is fun and all, it just a anon online forum that magnifies and inflates. We are on Metro and are very happy. I feel bad for the parents involved with this on 05 but things are pretty good where we are.

Lurker here.... so sad that a young Talented player is being singled out like this publicly, you immature parents need to invest your time elsewhere. I’ve never seen this player play but by all the talk on this forum about her, I’d want her on my much older DD team!

Is it posted anywhere who will be coaching the various age groups next year? DD considering coming to an ID session but we wanted to know a little about what coach she might have. I looked at the club website but it doesn't seem to have anything about next year. Any current parents know?

No one really knows as this is the first cycle throw with these coaches. Izzy deals with the colleges so will likely handle the oldest age groups. Beyond that is anyone’s guess.

VDA parent here. Looks like MU is playing the VDA showcase this weekend
Interested to see the outcome

Sure, but this is preseason, and rosters may be mixed rosters. MU put in U15s and U17s only and at another showcase they only put in the U16s and U19s. That way, they can just combine teams as needed. I wouldn't read much into it.
