Grandpa from Cruise ship tragedy charged

No. They do not get money for this. No way.

Even in interviews, the grandpa sets it up to fake sympathy and blame the cruise ship. The lawyers standpoint is the cruise line ignored safety regulations and in interviews, grandpa cries and says things like "if there was just a sign I never would have done it". It's all very calculated and makes me suspect the family's motivation is money, not grief

What are the odds that someone who didn’t notice that the window was open would notice and read a sign?

We just came back from a resort in Florida, Hawks Cay. We were staying on the third floor. My 6 year old was on the balcony, and I caught him sticking his head through the opening between vertical bars. Some bars were missing creating a 12-15 inch gap with exposed nails! We called the front desk 3 times, and alerted the cleaning lady. Nothing was done. Needless to say we did not go out on the balcony again. Just saying that resorts and cruise lines can be very slow to respond to safety concerns until tragedy strikes.

The difference is that the balcony railing actually was in ill repair. The window on the cruise ship was working fine. It was quite clearly open, there was a safety railing and it was up high where there was no way a child was just going to fall out of it. But Grandpa put the baby in the window and the baby fell out. If you had balanced your son on the balcony railing and lost your grip on him causing him to fall 3 stories, that would have been your doing, not the resort's.

It’s a calculated tactic. The less grandpa is at fault, the more the cruise line is at fault.

Maybe, but still there's that 25 second video of him leaning out and over holding the kid (like Michael Jackson) over the side. Don't any of you remember the grandmothers who (twice I think) threw their grandchildren from one of the pedestrian bridges at Tysons I? https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Suspect-Told-Police-She-Killed-Granddaughter-to-Spite-Son-in-Law-130675303.html. If not two grandmothers, then two different incidents but involving family members throwing infants to the ground from that bridge.

Watch them post signs now "Danger Warning: Do Not Place Child In Open Window."

And how does being color-blind even fit into the tragedy?

I’m losing sympathy for the entire family now. The flat out refusal to accept any responsibility is disgusting. Nobody owes you any damn money simply because your dumbass father made a tragic mistake. They are everything that is wrong with society today.

It doesn’t. Being color blind didn’t prevent grandpa from feeling and hearing the breeze.

Most people think of color blindness as red-green color blindness where there is some color, but reds/greens are confusing and shades of brown, etc.

But full monochromatic color blindness occurs in about 1 in 33K and it can be very difficult. For example, the photo posted a couple of pages ago that showed the obviously open window:

would look like this to a full monohromatic color blind person:

So, it is less obvious that the window is open from sight alone. But he would still have to have failed to notice the breeze blowing, which is hard 11 decks up. The wind may be mild at the gangway level, but 11 stories up, the wind is always blowing.

I think on some psychological level it's just a lot easier to blame the cruise-ship than to blame your father for horrific negligence.

Absolutely. I'm disgusted by the family and the lawyer. I wonder what people in their lives think.

And "Warning: When drinking a fluid, swallow periodically to prevent drowning."

Except for the handle on the window that is clearly not flush with the window and is easily visible in the second photo.

He did it. He just did. And there is no spin and no explanation. It happened on impulse. He just let go.

Playing the victim now is disgusting.
