Most pretentious name you've heard?

Ridiculous does not equal pretentious.
Generic, Christian names do not equal pretentious.

Pretentious is "expressive of affected, unwarranted, or exaggerated importance, worth, or stature."

You're welcome.

Like the name Penny ?

?? This is a common Spanish woman’s name.

Yep, the Spanish title of the Virgin Mary is "Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes" or "Maria de las Mercedes." The name has been around since the 1200s.

Girls:
Anne, Elizabeth, Sarah, Sophia, Catherine, Amelia, Charlotte, Isla, Mary, Victoria, Alexandra

Boys:
Phillip, Charles, William, James, Edward, Henry, George, David, Andrew, Arthur, Richard, John

Don’t think isla really goes on that list

She's trying to slip in DD's name and claim UC.

Yep, you caught me! I did a search for all the upper class pretentious names I could find and landed on Isla.... BTW I have boys and Isa is especially unhappy with his name.

Huh? someone who loves english kid lit. Not what I think of as pretentious esp since both characters are of modest background.

Yes, I'm tickled by the idea that it's pretentious to name a child after a small bear in a duffel coat, named after a London train station, who regularly covers himself with jam.

I don't think paddington is pretentious, but I do think its a bit silly. Go bigger -- Heathrow or Schipol.

OMG Heathrow would be the BEST! Please please let's start a trend of international airport babynames. That would be a new front in tweeness/pretentiousness.

I can see an O'Hare, a Heathrow, Hartsfield, and .... wait for it ... IDLEWILD. I will pay $1000 to anyone who names their child Idlewild. It is just so PERFECT.
Heathrow is better than choosing Dulles!

Hahaha. When my BFF was pregnant and throwing out names (over the phone years ago) I kept clarifying them:

Her: Fulton?
Me: Like the ATL airport?
Her: Mason?
Me: Like the jar?
Her: Colby?
Me: Like the cheese?

She finally went with Andrew. (He's in his mid 20s now)
