How many busses have to be stuck in the snow before people accept closing might be the safest choice....

Good luck to the school buses on Friday! Oh, and we don't have sidewalks here.....

That is seriously so annoying. I feel your pain.

Everyone loves to talk about all the money MCPS spends in lawsuits so how about let's open it up to a whole mess of hurt child and employee lawsuits as well.

Unless of course everyone will band together and agree not to sue for medical expenses when your kid slips and breaks a wrist.

The people who won’t accept it don’t care what the safest choice is. They are willing to accept a larger amount of risk so they don’t disappoint their employer or lose income. These are valid and legitimate priorities for those individuals, but unfortunately for them, the priority of safety of students and staff and operational considerations like do buildings have heat and running water are higher priorities for the school district.

Childcare providers don't offer buses - only for summer camps when they do field trips

It's not only about buses. It's about slips and falls on the ice, accidents on wet floors and fender benders in the parking lots that MCPS may be held liable for if they open in unsafe conditions.

Yes, but if they plow the food distribution schools first and don’t start plowing other schools at all, and if building service workers’ home streets are unplowed and/or neighborhood streets around the school are unplowed limiting access to the school for those who are supposed to get it cleared, no one will be there to let the child care workers in the building. The building service workers did not sleep in the schools over the weekend!!

I love to see so many people on their high horses about this. I don't live in a fancy neighborhood, and am in fact right off Georgia Ave in Olney and have yet to see a single plow. They somehow plowed one side of the neighborhood but not the other. Cannot get out (plenty of cars have tried and gotten stuck other than a couple people with pick up trucks). Called 311 last night and waited 45 min and put in a ticket-still no plows, and waited another hour on hold this morning to be told, the ticket is pending-just wait. I mean, for those that say dig yourself out, I mean really-we did our driveway and sidewalk but cannot get out on the street-and seems like we are by no means the only people in this situation. So, I wouldn't get mad at the schools, this is the right call-but be mad at the county for not preparing and actually plowing the way they should! We have to stop pretending we don't get snow here! Plus, now when the plow does come by, I sure hope my husband and I can actually move the large pile of ice they will create at the end of the driveway!

You just keep offering bs excuses. The secretary would let people in if offices were open..Jfc.

The county site isn’t accurate- there are still streets unplowed but the website says they’ve been plowed. It’s likely because the plows themselves are getting stuck. I don’t see school resuming on Friday.

If there is school Friday, my kids will stay home if I’m unable to drive them. No f-ing way I’m putting them on the bus. Last storm their bus slid off the road.

Read their emergency message today..they are already hinting at a closure on Monday. No way they will open on Friday.

The county completely missed a double yellow lined road (primary road status) in my neighborhood. I had to call several entities: MCdot, Md SHA, my HOA, back to MCdot only to be told that, while it is a county road, it is considered residential. I pleaded, tried to appeal to their sense of safety (elderly neighbors, sick, pregnant neighbors) and attempted my best Karen act (didn't work). Eventually, they made one pass right on the yellow lines, leaving a sheet of pure ice and no salt or sand treatment. This is my (and many others') only way out of the neighborhood. No way a school bus can come down this street.

That’s interesting. Are they allowed to do that? I’m not complaining just curious.
