Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

Westfield has two metal detector entrances-one door for buses and one for everyone else.

Today, one of the entrances was not working. All the kids were sent to the same door. To stand outside in the rain and go through one at a time. 2800 kids.

The shiny new detectors are broken on the second day of school?

Half of my DC's first period were late today. Is this a new norm in FCPS high schools?

My son said it was a lot messier today. No problems yesterday, but today his bus was 20 minutes late and then the line to get into the building took about 10 minutes. He was really late to first period and said a lot of other kids were as well.

You have to speak in the language this SB cares about. Write and complain about the equity factor. Kids who can afford cars can leave early. Kids who have to take the bus are disproportionately missing more instructional time. It undermines equal access to education.

Our neighborhood listserv is talking about how the metal detectors are effectively finding eyelash curlers.

They got stuck in the traffic for quite a long time. Are more parents trying diving and dropping their high school kids today? But fortunately, DC arrive school earlier and got 12 minutes before the first period.

If you don't normally drive your kid to school, you may just not know how congested it is around the high schools.

I’m driving DD to school. We were 12 minutes early yesterday, so left 10 minutes later today. Not sure she made it to class on time. I thought that Rocky was bad, but Chantilly is exponentially worse. And their dismissal protocol is every man for themselves.

Rocky run kiss and ride in the morning was a well oiled machine last year. You need to lower your expectations. CHS has 3 times as many students.

The parking situation at CHS is a circus especially in the afternoons. It’s almost impossible to get out. Student parking near the busses and kiss and ride line and a mass exodus at dismissal.

At TJ today my kid even had to go through it to walk in the the office for a late drop off. Like WTF? Even he was like this is so stupid.

Its really unfair to put this much stress and hassle on the kids, for no benefit. No one is safer--they are actually less safe!

So maybe we push to, I don't know, legistlate guns? All of this crap is because this country refuses to give up it's gross gun obsession.

I don't think you are speaking to a bunch of gun nuts.
IF all this hassle was worth it and actually made kids safer, it would be a different conversation.
