Will school weapon detections cause class time delay?

Chantilly doesn't have any space to work with, that's the issue.

I think that buses can be on the academy side and cars on the fields side, or vice versa.

Agree. Two entrances but they ultimately would ultimately meet head on. It's a U around the school. Not a school you want to do Kiss and Ride. And, it has very large enrollment and lots of buses.

Same issues with Marshall. Two doors can be used for entry - the front (buses) and the back (kiss and ride and student drivers). The walkers can no longer use the side entrance.

My kids said they had to take out their Chromebooks, binders and metal water bottle, hand it all to a guy on the side, walk through the detectors, and then pack it back up.

What about the metal thermo lunch jar in the lunch box?

Any update on Oakton today? Kids had computers.

and Westfield was a pilot school....they should have a better grip on this than the other schools

In my experience reaching out to a WaPo reporter about VMPI, they will actively ignore FCPS stories until other outlets break them and make them big news.

+1
The VMPI case was when I gave up on the Post. They also liked to simply "report" whatever FCPS issued in press releases. No clue when the local staff was last good but it's at least been 5 years.

This is a great idea. Makes a lot of sense. It made me think of when I was in FCPS way back when, the security guys knew the smokers and general trouble makers, what they could do is copy TSA and pull kids out to be scanned.

I thought that initially too but the results of those pull outs are going to look very un-PC if targeted.

I presume everything metal would need to come out. My kids plan on buying lunch to avoid needing to also deconstruct lunch boxes at the door.

But that would just compromise their health. The lunches are full of excessive fat, sodium, and cholesterol!

DC told me that there was long lines at the lunch time. Much longer than the lines in the middle school. Students have very limited time to eat their lunch. You can pack cold food such as sandwiches and salad to avoid using metal thermos jar.

Yes it's crazy right now. My Marshall kids reported that the front entrance was closed today and everyone was routed to the back entrance. One of my kids got to class 20 min late and said only half the class was there at that point.
