But on a different note, I am so, so sad for all the families who lost people, especially children. I can't stop thinking about all those little girls drowning. It's horrific.

Especially since their clientele are the moneyed, connected type. I doubt the camp will ever reopen.

There could be some lawsuits, but the owners of the camp are very much beloved and the camper families aren’t generally the litigious types. I suspect there will be fewer lawsuits than expected and there will be support for the camp to reopen in some fashion, perhaps at a different location or perhaps only as a retreat or something. Whether the family has it in them to do so remains to be seen.

You are clueless. You have no idea how small these towns are. They do not have the funding for this. I actually haven’t heard anything about families suing the camp. People are coming together as a community to support the families involved, the discussions about it could not be further from this thread.

Once the wake up from this nightmare, there will be legal action. Trust me.

A warning system does not have to be complicated. Have PSAs and have citizens install a weather app on their phone. MoCo sends warnings for flash floods, thunderstorms, and tornado watches.

Tell people to take these warnings seriously. Turn around, don’t drown is one I hear all the time.

You gotta do something. Anything.

Of course there will be. It's not like this is not going to happen again and people will want to do something to prevent that. The severity and frequency of these events is going to increase not decrease.

Of course, nobody expects a small town to be able to do with the national weather service can do. That’s why we have a federal government you dolt.

But you voted for them to go away and now you have dead children on your hands

You’re disgusting. I didn’t vote for Trump (lifelong Dem) but I would raise my kids in these communities over anywhere else in the world. Grew up in SF, college and grad school in DC, London after, got married and raising kids in TX and will never leave.

Actually, Texas is disgusting. They’re like you’re drunk brother who keeps coming back over and over and over and over again for more money after he lives, irresponsibility and kills people.

Do you remember in Texas in 2021 when they killed almost 300 people because Texas refuses to keep their power grid up-to-date.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Texas_power_crisis

I’m gonna say to you exactly what I would say to my drunk brother you need to get your sh!t together. Your decisions are killing people.

Stop coming to your responsible, siblings and states and asking to bail you out every time you f something up

Remember when their electricity failed in winter because TX is too cool to be part of the national power grid? And Ted Cruz flew to Cancun?

Yup, many people died. How easy we forget about things like that.

He flew his family to Cancun so they could be warm in a luxury hotel. Remember?

Does it matter? The camp’s net worth plus their insurance policy limits won’t be nearly enough to pay out for 20+ child deaths.

I’m guessing it matters to the family that owns the camp. But who would ever send a child back there?

Well, at least one owner is now dead and the camp is totally destroyed. It’s never going to reopen, regardless of lawsuits. I highly doubt there is enough money in insurance and assets to pay out to all the deserving families that have been devastated.

Blaming the GOP for this disaster is just like blaming Biden for the Asheville flooding. This tragedy would have happened no matter who was in office.

They had no phone, no electricity, no cell service to receive the warnings. The flood was a wall of water that went from 7 feet to 29 feet in minutes. Any attempt to move to higher ground was futile.

Do you mean the leaders of the camp had no way to communicate or receive communications of any type? If that's the case, then they shouldn't have been able to operate a camp in that area.

Perhaps one could think not a safe location for a camp with 750 girls sleeping by a river that has been known to flood. Illogical.

Your rose colored perspective is not going to stand up to the realities of aggrieved parents, potential negligence, and insurance companies doing what insurance companies do best. Camp mystic is no stranger to prolonged legal battles, look up what happened in early 2010’s - they went through a huge lawsuit that lasted for 6 years. They are also very likely underinsured for an event like this, so everyone will try to be first in line.

No phone, electricity or cell service, really?

It was 45 minutes. Time to at least get some out. The camp was irresponsible. Parents were irresponsible for sending kids to a camp where ther is no form of communication. It’s 2025 for gods sake!

Lawsuits arent always about money. Sometimes they are about forcing regulations and policy change.
