Everybody hates Matt Gaetz, he isn’t all that special, he wouldn’t be a good AG and Trump knows that, and he doesn’t represent a swing district so it would be easy to toss him and get a new republican. What is Trump getting out of this?

They're all idiots and this is what America wanted to stick it to " the elites" and to " own the libs". What they didn't consider is when the ship sinks, everyone drowns but the billionaires.

Yup.

This would include Susan Collins in ME and Thom Tillis in NC to which I say: Great! If the GOP runs far right Trumpies in those states, those become winnable seats for Dems. Maine is way to independent to go in for MAGA and NC just elected a moderate Dem in Josh Stein as governor. Have at it!

What a bunch of thugs MAGA are. Threatening each other via twitter if they don't toe the party line. What a way to run a party!

I think this is their version of "polite" I'm sure it will get much uglier.

He is 100% right. Any Senator who allows Gaetz to be seated is a complete disgrace and an accomplice to Gaetz's disgusting history.

Has a president ever tried to exert this much control over their party before?

Yes, of course. But usually not so publicly. By Tweet? OMG

But how is he any worse than Trump himself? And they've all already proven repeatedly they are cool with Trump.

He interviewed several people this weekend and was frustrated by their cerebral and academic discussions of the rule of law etc. He wants someone with a voracious appetite to go after his enemies. Gaetz made it clear he's that guy.

This. It's not deep.

Unlike the other candidates for cabinet positions, Gaetz is under an ethics investigation related to charges of his associates in various crimes.

Trump himself was elected by vote so the Senate cannot confirm after deliberation. But his cabinet members? They should be above a certain bar.

What a bunch of chest-beating douchebags. These perpetually online freaks are influencing millions of young men and this will be our downfall.

Not overtly and not this quickly. Normally they try being nice first. And historically the players have at least been competent.

Oh goodie, from the lips of the current AG in 2023, we can expect no criticism of Gaetz for the next 4 years or else they are attacking democracy!

Okay, but the GOP senators all presumably voted for Trump. So arguably Trump would be Senate confirmed if he needed to be. So I don't see how Gaetz is any different. I think he'll be confirmed.

I think the long game is for Gaetz to fail to be confirmed, run home to Florida then use his anger at Dems and RINOs to run for governor. With Trump supporting him he's a shoo-in.

Huh I forgot we had a current AG

Gotta say, for as much as I love Biden - and I might be a fan club of one - Garland has been such a disappointment. Where has he been for the last four years? Was he in a coma?!

Anyway! Glad he's finally appearing for something

I wonder if it is to get Lara Trump to run for his seat and Gaetz was dumb enough not to see the plan.
