Matt Gaetz tapped for AG

And if Ron DeSantis appoints Matt Gaetz as Rubio’s replacement in the U.S. Senate, Trump will then nominate DeSantis as Attorney General as part of their deal.

Two for one special!

A bit far fetched but interesting theory!

No because Trump wants Desantis to appoint Lara Trump to Rubio's vacant seat.

Also Trump HATES Desantis and no way is he making a deal with him to put him in the cabinet.

Trump appointed Gaetz because he and Gaetz are buddies and Trump wants one of his buddies to prosecute the Pelosis and Bidens. If the Senate won't confirm he'll definitely try to use the recess appointment (they have to recess eventualy) but he could also just find another buddy to do it. Pull Rudy off his ice floe for instance. It doens't matter to Trump.

Everybody hates Matt Gaetz, he isn’t all that special, he wouldn’t be a good AG and Trump knows that, and he doesn’t represent a swing district so it would be easy to toss him and get a new republican. What is Trump getting out of this?

I’m guessing that Gaetz probably has some dirt on Trump.

i don't think his reason for picking Gaetz is all that mysterious. He interviewed several people this weekend and was frustrated by their cerebral and academic discussions of the rule of law etc. He wants someone with a voracious appetite to go after his enemies. Gaetz made it clear he's that guy.

1) Trump is not going to appoint De Santis as AG because he can't trust him
2) De Santis is not going to take a position where Trump can fire him the next day, except for, maybe, Secretary of State. This is the only one that's worth it to governors aspiring to presidency

Who are these losers who thought this was going to impress Trump?

This. It's not deep.

When you've lost The Federalist

Charlie Kirk threatens to primary any Republican Senators who voted to confirm Garland but vote against Gaetz:

This would include Susan Collins in ME and Thom Tillis in NC to which I say: Great! If the GOP runs far right Trumpies in those states, those become winnable seats for Dems. Maine is way to independent to go in for MAGA and NC just elected a moderate Dem in Josh Stein as governor. Have at it!

That's some solid writing.

I do think the tide has already turned against Gaetz. No genuine conservative is supporting this nomination. And they are turning on this pick quickly. I'd be surprised if Gaetz isn't forced to withdraw in the next couple of weeks. He will never be confirmed. And presumably, Thune will never give his consent to a recess appointment for AG.

Also, Trump and DeSantis despise each other. They are not working together on any scheme.

<whispers: getting this reaction from dems is actually the point>

the point of what? Trump nominating Gaetz? I certainly hope he isn't making decisions for that reason. Yikes.

Trump is a self serving-why are we surprised by this circus he's creating.

I hope he spills a ton of dirt on other MAGAs on his way down. I don’t think he will ride quietly into the sunset.

Who would they even send to beat Thom Tillis? In my experience North Carolina isn’t deep MAGA territory. It’s like VA with a republican lean and he is fairly well respected.

What a bunch of thugs MAGA are. Threatening each other via twitter if they don't toe the party line. What a way to run a party!

I had no idea this clown graduated law school from William and Mary. I assumed his degree was from Strayer.

He didn't need a scholarship. If you can pay full tuition, you your grades don't need to be as competitive as someone who needs a scholarship.

This I hate when people say but they went to Yale...ok but I've known some pretty dumb people who went to Harvard and I'm sure the dumb are at every school.
