The metro is always packed to me... especially during morning and evening rush hour. If more people go into the office, the metro is going to get even more packed.

The metro is losing money because people keep jumping over the payment system and no one enforces it.

I mean it's an amalgam of things.yes, the Metro is along money because of fare evasion, but ridership is also down almost 50% due to WFH. WMTA is losing money hand over fist. WFH will obliterate public transportation in the country as we know it. Systems cannot survive on weekend users alone. WMTA is is massive financial stress now as we speak. Just one of the consequences of WFH.

And yet you progressives always preach mass transportation but ignore the energy and gas savings benefits of WFH.

My manager lives in Chicago. Why do I need to commute to DC?

The whole thing makes no sense and that scares me. That means it may actually happen.

+100 THIS!

This idiocy was floated in another thread on this topic. It's as silly now as it was then.

I’m not sure I’d want to f-around with the Virginia vote.

Precisely which Republican candidate will be better for federal workers (i) on WFH issues, and (ii) generally speaking than Biden?

For this 52-year period, the federal workforce has had higher pay raises during a Republican administration. Here is how it breaks out.

The average pay raise per year: 3.71%
Under Republicans: 4.05%
Under Democrats: 3.65%

Yeah, because Rs screw up the economy so that Ds have to clean up a recession. That always comes with lower inflation.

I agree with you that Rs are awful, but no one has pointed to anything where the R presidential candidates said they would force federal employees back to the office. If Biden makes me spend 15 hours per week commuting just to please his rich donors, he is not getting my vote. I have no clue why anyone would support a candidate who gives such a strong middle finger to you. We don't know if a R would be better, but based on what Biden is advocating, it won't be any worse. So I'll take my chances.

I agree. The heck with all those women who may lose the right to choose. And I don't really care if corporate taxers are lowered to nothing. If I have ot do the commute I signed on for pre-pandemic, it'll turn me into a Trump voter. MAGA!!

The right to choose is already gone. Strange to hinge your vote on an issue that is no longer even up for debate at the national level. And what exactly has Biden done to raise corporate taxes?

Maybe the feckin’ useless Dems should have codified the right to choice and interstate reproductive services when they had the chance.

When exactly was that?

Oh I dunno, maybe during the multiple time periods when the controlled Congress and the Presidency.

Tell me you don't understand the filibuster without telling me you don't understand the filibuster.

Are all feds so ill-informed?

they never even tried

You seriously aren't this stupid, are you?

Feds, is this a good example of your ranks? Because if so, I think you feds should continue to work at home because you aren't able to operate a car safely, or be trusted out of the house on your own.

Did you even read the article, you dolt? It makes the rather obvious point that it's impossible to pass a nationwide abortion law with the current makeup of the Senate.

It's this kind of magical thinking, combined with a lack of civics knowledge, that convinces rational people that progressives are not to be takes seriously.

the CURRENT senate. the Dems had opportunities in the past and did not take them … because they did not prioritize reproductive rights.

Is that so? Well, it shouldn't be too much trouble for you to point to the filibuster-proof majority in the Senate that would codify nationwide abortion rights - along wiht a democratic house and a democratic president.

It troubles me that so many people (or maybe just this one vocal one) are so clueless when it comes to basic civics.

Basic civics tells me that not only did Democrats fail to codify Roe - some actively eroded abortion rights in Congress by voting for the Hyde Amendment and Partial Birth Abortion ban. But I guess your view is that on abortion Democrats are perpetual victims, whereas Republicans somehow managed to get major federal limits codified. Ok!

+10000. Some people just can’t get their head around that we are doing the same thing whether we are in an office, conference room, home office etc. Technology has evolved and there’s no need to be in an office building for a laptop job.

WMTA is wringing it’s hands hoping RTO happens - like so many legacy businesses. RTO will not happen so WMTA is going to have to adjust its business model to survive. Or not. Many won’t miss it and without an incentive for subsidies because of their commuters, local govs won’t be interested.

The people pointing out that feds won't even make a dent in saving CRE are correct. Most businesses have come to realize that any loss in worker productivity as a result of WFH is more than covered by the cost savings from expensive office leases. Many businesses could hire 25% more staff and still come out ahead by getting rid of their office space. Office space is just insanely expensive.

Maybe we should ban Uber and Lyft to help wmata, too. That makes about as much sense as doing rto for metro.

My office is in a suburb nowhere near metro. Can I be exempt from this stupid sacrifice to the alter of the commercial real estate and WMATA gods?

My friends in commercial real estate have not been doing well. No international vacay this summer. They had to slum it in OBX with the common folk. They also had to cancel the winter break ski trip we always take every year to ring in the new year. They also changed their spring break trip plans to a road trip to visit relatives in FL from a Bahamas trip.
